These legendary games developers provide plenty of inspiration
For any aspiring game developers, it's always worth hearing from the professionals who have been there and done it. Whether you're entering next year's competition or you're aiming to master a few more skills before submitting your title in a few years' time, the work of these legendary developers could give you some much-needed inspiration.
After all, the game development space is highly competitive. All around the world, gamers aren't just exploring leading co-op products like Split Fiction and tucking into DraftKings online blackjack games. In fact, many keen players are now diving into development, perhaps by sharing their latest gaming-related creations on platforms like Twitch or by enrolling at a local university. Essentially, it's a dream job for many diehard players.
However, in the same way aspiring chefs learn from Michelin-starred professionals and keen interior designers watch YouTube videos to gain ideas, many budding developers follow some of their heroes from the industry, given the huge impact they've made by playing their part in the development of some truly iconic releases. So, without further ado, below is a brief look at some legendary game developers. Maybe one day you'll be mentioned alongside them?
Atsushi Inaba
Japan is responsible for some of the most amazing game developers the industry has witnessed, although not many of them come close to Atsushi Inaba and his catalogue of must-play releases. His input in some of Capcom's special products cannot be understated, while he also played a key role in the formation of Platinum Games. Some of Atsushi Inaba's most fruitful projects include Resident Evil: Code Veronica X and Devil May Cry, although Inaba has also shone on other projects.
Todd Howard
As the executive producer of Bethesda Game Studios, Todd Howard has clearly done well for himself. The 55-year-old has been showcasing his talent for game development for years, although his reputation really began to grow due to the success of Fallout 3, Fallout 4, and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Also the game director for Starfield, Todd Howard has played a key role in some of the most exciting virtual adventures on offer in the modern environment.
Shigeru Miyamoto
A game developer whom fellow developers hugely respect, Shigeru Miyamoto rose to fame within the gaming community after being behind some of the most iconic Nintendo products we've ever seen. Since 1981, the Japanese video game designer, producer and game director at Nintendo has been overseeing a plethora of undisputed masterpieces. Some of his most successful projects include Donkey Kong and the Zelda games, although the list is extensive. Overall, when assessing his impact in the space, Shigeru Miyamoto is a true master of his craft.
Will Wright
In the modern environment, it's fair to say the gaming titles we can experience are far more sophisticated than some of the classic releases more senior gamers discuss. That's largely down to technology-based innovation, although it also needed the right people to bring it all to life in the finest way possible. That's where professionals like Will Wright come in, with Wright being viewed as a true pillar of modern game design thanks to his input in releases like SimCity and The Sims.
Yoji Shinkawa
A name not every dedicated gamer out there will be familiar with, Yoji Shinkawa has been behind some truly unforgettable products over the years. His work in the art category has enabled him to produce some truly iconic characters, particularly when assessing top gaming titles like Metal Gear Solid. This Japanese favorite's character designer and influence is raved about and it's an element of the game Yoji Shinkawa was solely responsible for.
