The Biggest Player of the Gaming Industry
Billions of people in the world consider playing video games as one of their most prized pastimes, and it isn’t difficult to figure out why. Once they login to their favorite game, they are transported into this world as a valiant adventurer ready to embark on an arduous journey filled with challenges, orcs, ravines, gold, and glory. For the time being, they aren’t the exhausted professionals who just came home from work or the burnt-out college student who just barely survived hell week. They are chivalrous knights, fearless warriors, clever puzzle-solvers, brash bandits, daring racers, and whoever or whatever else they want to be.
It’s clear why people play video games, but what’s more interesting is the platform they choose to play games on.
How Mobile Games Rose to the Top
When people think of gamers, they often think about young boys locking themselves in their rooms to pull an all-nighter playing video games with their buddies on Discord. However, most gamers are actually everyday people who may not seem like gamers at first glance. They may be the office worker enjoying himself during his lunch break playing Clash of Clans, or they may be moms playing Candy Crush after tucking their baby to sleep. While rather unassuming, phones have been the gateway to countless gamers’ main source of entertainment for years now, the biggest one, in fact, and for good reasons.
• Convenience and Accessibility
As everyone brings phones wherever they go, being able to play games on them granted it a new level of convenience and accessibility that allowed it to tap into a wider audience than its non-portable counterparts. It is quite difficult to lug around an entire Xbox across town to play during a vacation, and it may seem unprofessional to bring and play with a PSP in the office. However, mobile phones face none of these issues and are always the handy on-the-go entertainment devices for everyone.
• Hardware Upgrades
While the initial wave of phone games were simple and limited in functionality due to technological constraints, recent advancements in mobile technology allowed more sophisticated software to function smoothly, giving it the chance to compete against the complexity, aesthetic, and intensity of games from other ports. This also opens up new varieties of games that a phone can offer. Gone are the days when people had to venture to arcades, as modern smartphones can now offer both games of skill such as the iconic Pac-Man and Jetpack Joyride, with a variety of games of chance available on casinobonusca, complete with reviews and additional details to cater to every gamer's needs, including bonuses, no deposit rewards, and security information. There are even major console and PC games that have adapted mobile versions of their games, such as Call of Duty: Mobile, PUBG, and League of Legends: Wild Rift, to take advantage of the massive demand for mobile games.
Monopoly in Real Life
Recent data shows that the gaming industry’s revenue is at the top of its game, no pun intended, and is projected to grow even more in the future. These lofty numbers show how gaming is so much more than a mere hobby for many as it has proven itself to be a formidable player in the market with an extremely vast customer base. Much of its profit is generated from mobile gaming, contributing half of the total revenue at a staggering 92.2 billion dollars. This isn’t surprising considering how mobile phones are the devices that everyone holds onto in their daily lives.
A Step into the Future
Many assume Virtual Reality to be the future of gaming, however, at its current stage, the awkward size and weight of the headset and solitary nature of VR makes it unappealing to the more casual gamers. People often avoid using VR when in the vicinity of other people, which makes sense as it can be an embarrassing situation to be waving one’s hands and arms around while wearing a clunky headgear. Unfortunately, gaming is at its peak when one is with friends, which VR can’t seem to properly comprehend yet. However, another type of game attempting to merge reality with cyberspace has made a roaring success with its globally famous pioneer, Pokémon Go. Augmented reality joins together the physical world with computer-generated entities. So far, this is best performed with a mobile phone as AR games generally involve moving around and it’s outright impossible for players to constantly drag their consoles outside of the house. As AR is already overshadowing VR in terms of being the future of gaming, mobile phones’ firm grasp on AR further cements its throne as the most successful and widely used gaming platform.
