It’s 13th century and a horde of enemies is charging at you. All you have to defend yourself is a weird cannon that you have bought at discount. It’s pretty powerful and can hit several enemies at once, but it’s damage area has a very weird shapes.

\n

You lose once any enemy reaches the left side of the screen. To make a move, click on the shape in the bottom palette then on the battlefield in the top. You also can rearrange the shapes on the palette, so you have free space to recieve a bigger shapes.

\n

Do you think this mechanics worth expanding on and making a full game out of it? Leave comments here or in discussions on git.

Reminiscent of Tetris and other bin-packing games, but with a fun twist I haven’t personally seen before. The controls themselves were clean and intuitive to use, and while only a single mechanic was present the puzzle of it was enough to remain engaging.

\n

I felt that aside from the title there was little to tie the game into the theme of the jam, and a bit of additional graphics (perhaps cannon balls and troops) the graphics could have brought the theme to life more. Add in a cannon sound or other “juice” and I’d be playing this game on my phone for sure, and an expansion on the mechanics could potentially find me trying to keep a long running game going for hours.

Pretty interesting mechanics. I would love to keep playing this game!

It is an interesting puzzle-mechanic\nWith more gfx (graphics AND effects) with a soundtrack and some power-ups (bonus-“bomb”, etc) it would be a game worth expanding.

I get the idea, it’s interesting to have damage not in a radius, but in a pattern. Can work in an JRPG-style combat situation, where you have a grid of enemies and your attacks have different shapes.

The mechanics are interesting and seem to be original. It would be great if there were some graphics to represent that these are troops marching towards you, and some explosion animations to indicate that we are shooting at them.

The only think that was missing for me are sound sound effects.\nWith the exception of this the game feels quite polished and I had a lot of fun playing it!

Neat puzzle game! I thought it was very intuitive after some experimentation.

\n

I wish it had some audio, even just a cannon noise when enemies are destroyed. I also think it could have a more 13th century theme, such as stronger-looking enemies for higher numbers.

I definitely agree with others that the mechanics are innovative and worth expanding. It’s a fun and playable game, even without the ‘sauce’ and without audio even. Great creative effort here. Keep it up and I’ll check you out on Github.

A very engaging game, I think it’s a great design. With some juice, and maybe one or two more control mechanics to let the game go longer, like a charged nuke, or maybe a special piece that eliminated all cells with the same number, or a clumping bomb that clustered cells to reduce gaps; especially something to reward the best placement, e.g. “a bomb that only charges on turns where you eliminate more than 6 power from the board,” I think this could be a hit.

Cool! Very innovative idea. I really like the mechanic and I think it is worth exploring it a bit more. Maybe you could add something so that the horde changes and does not simply move to the right. However, it should not be random. Maybe an additional rule, that when a lower unit is two space away from a higher unit it moves two spaces. Not sure if this rule works, but I just want to illustrate what I mean: Add something where the player can influence the horde a bit and has more control of shaping it in a way that they can hit better with their next shot.\nThe main reason why I suggest this, is that it sometimes does not feel very good when you have to waste a good shot just to kill a lonely 1.

\n

Still a really nice game (with a hilarious “story” :D) and worth exploring the mechanic more. Congrats!

Tetris 2.0. :D. 59 turns. I liked it - congratulations!

\n

I think it would be good to add the ability to rotate your shapes, for example a horizontal line on a vertical one, etc., and also to sum them by stacking them on top of each other in your store for example - what do you think?

Hey there!

\n

I’ve never seen a game like this, really comes out of nowhere, nice imagination.

\n

I will admit, even after reading the description, I was still confused on what to do.\nI feel that there should be some tutorial in-game on how to place your defences, one by one.

\n

Nice one

Nice throwback to games like Minesweeper, in game instructions and audio would enhance the game,

This was a really interesting concept. I haven’t seen anything like this before. I think there’s something here which could be turned into a longer puzzle game of some kind. Well done!
