I reached the door at the bottom and nothing seems to happen for me (I have the key). Spawning spikes by walking is an interesting idea, but IMO it hurts the gameplay the way it’s working now, I found myself just walking left and right for the most of the game. Graphics are looking good tho.

Looks like a cute little game with a few wee bugs to be ironed out.

Don’t get the key until you have the door cleared. If you die with the key, the game forgets you had the key and you can’t open the door. So clear the door, get the key, and run like heck!

I like the graphics, and the basic mechanics are pretty solid.\nI kept until up falling down a narrow hole, and then I can’t get out, can’t even take steps to summon the spike.

It’s a nice game. The first time I played it, I remember that it was not so zoomed out, and I think it was better before. I like very much the particle effect. What I have noticed is that when I shoot, it happens from multiple positions, not just the player’s.

Unfortunately, I could not play the game: I have “search as you type” enabled in my browser, so when I try to shoot the browser search suddenly shows up. You should call .preventDefault() on all keyboard events to prevent this.

I am not sure what the intention of this game is. I got the key and dug to the door, but nothing happened. The bouncing spike sphere is fun when it destroys blocks but impossible it is impossible to avoid.

This is an interesting one! On my first 2 playthroughs, I kept getting stuck in a single width well, with nowhere to walk. On my 3rd and final playthrough, I tried a breadth-first-search approach, and tried to stay on top as long as I could. Finally, after about 40 spawned spikes, I hit bottom. After 50 spawned spikes, I got to the door, but it didn’t open. After 60 spikes, I had full cleared all bricks around the door. I admire the exploration of new ideas, and new mechanics. I would love to watch a developer playthrough of this, to see how the experts do it. Nice pixel art, nice sound effects. Congrats on submitting!

It might be jsut a bug, but my deceased wizard-incarnations all are shooting fireballs, which makes a wonderful particle-effect-firework :-)

fortunately, I could play the game: as I have “search as you type” enabled in my browser but disabled it so i could play and I also dont want to search as I type whilst playing a game.\nGot to the door but it wouldnt open then i read the comments on how to do it but got stuck. Really want to see whats behind it so i will persevere! 👨‍🚒

A neat little platformer.

Cute graphics, the background stars and the fireballs look really good.

I so wanted to break blocks with my wand to dig lower, but alas, only exploding spike ball did it.

Love the art style and the particle effects, nice unique mechanics too! I especially like the mechanic where old Trikas stick around and shoot fireballs, adds room for lots of planning on where to spawn the spikes.

Okay so it turns out I never left an actual review for the game, despite discussing it at length on Slack, so here goes.

\n

I think there’s a lot of potential in the “platformer but the world is entirely destructible” formula. It’s just so satisfying. Many of the games which have this mechanic focus on resource extraction a lot (e.g. SteamWorld Dig), so making the very act of vertical movement the goal is a nice differentiator.

\n

How you control the spike bombs by nudging them in a direction is also interesting, it’s a bit of a Breakout vibe in that you’re never fully in control, making it all the more exciting when a good hit clears a large chunk of the level.

\n

Another mechanic I’d just love to see explored more in general is how your corpses still have wands, which all fire in unison. This strangely makes the game world more cohesive to me, more believable. Corpses aren’t just some abstraction, they’re still instances of the player character. Such an interesting touch, if maybe accidental, and very much underrepresented in games.

\n

All in all, I really want to see more games from you in the future. :)

My intention is to make it bounce forever but in LittleJS it seems to always damp for some reason.\nThe firing bodies is beautiful accident that I forgot to switch off all the input checking when the player is dead. As too many bodies will impact the game performances, in the post compo, I would like make use of them and then despawn them after a certain number of bodies are on the overworld.
