Played in VR - neat puzzle game, definitely had to use some brainpower. It was a bit rough to do gaze-based selection in VR. Liked the various cats though!

3D games in js13k has always impressed me, and this is no exception. I have no idea how you’re able to make 3d models in a game and have it fit in less than 13k, very well done. The gameplay is easy to understand, and has some aha-moments, I really enjoyed it. I didn“t play with VR headset, so not sure if my rating is fair for that category (3 stars), but I had to vote to write a comment and cast a vote at all.

Really impressed with how you managed to squeeze all that in 13kb 🤩 Cool game and well done - maybe a bit cruel to the cats 🙈

Nice little puzzle games, although waking up the cats with those devices is cruel.

\n

I had to play out of VR mode, because the VR controls with gaze make it very annoying in a headset to me. Also the gaze controller did not work well in my case (sometimes it stopped working at all). Using the VR controllers when available, with the usual laser model (a line drawn from the controller’s position, and a raycasting when pressing trigger button) would have been a far better interaction in my opinion. But of course it would not have fit in the 4 remaining bytes.

\n

Despite this little annoying point, it is a nice puzzle game, and impressive 3D look for the size.

Yeah I agree about the gaze controls; I wanted it to work on the lowest end hardware so had to support gaze controls but wished I’d had more time, bytes and test hardware to improve the controls in VR across more high end controllers.

Nice puzzle game especially for webxr, idk how you made it but really great works

I just played this on PC, so I hope my rating is fair. It worked really well just playing in the browser.

\n

Really nice graphics! Clever puzzles (I played through the first six so far… three was the hardest for me). Nice music and sound effects, as well.

\n

Really nice job! I enjoyed it!

The eye of the cat say they didn’t like being poked. The puzzles were a good level of challenge. The shadow and reflections added to the graphics. Great job on adding many types of cats.

Oh, it’s playable without a VR headset! Impressive visuals, sound, and technically too. Great idea.

I love puzzle games, and I really liked the shiny, realistic textures here. However, the core idea of having to pop cats with a needle felt awful to me - maybe I’m missing something, but it was deeply unsettling. If the goal were to free the cats by popping rubber bubbles or solving puzzles, I would have enjoyed it much more. As it is, I only made it through three levels before I couldn’t bear it anymore - I felt too sorry for the kittens.

Thank you for sharing your work.

I had a blast with Wake the Cat - slick 3D, shiny reflections, and satisfying “Aha” puzzles, all shockingly packed into 13KB. It runs great in the browser and the WebXR bonus is cool, with a charming variety of cats. Minor nit: gaze controls feel a bit finicky in VR and the “poking” theme can be harsh.

Looks pretty good. I like a puzzle game. Poor cats though :’(\nPlays really well without VR too.

These are great puzzles, and it’s impressive how you got the physics working. I struggled to get the gaze control working in VR, but really enjoyed playing on desktop.

I love puzzle games. I played it successfully on desktop but had trouble in VR. After clicking on the wrong nail I couldn’t reset the level to try again. I was really impressed with how much graphics you managed to cram into 13k.

Had lots of fun waking the cats

\n

The 3D models and interactions work well

\n

I love the sound effects

\n

The level select screen is good

\n

It worked really well on desktop without VR

Wow, this was very impressive technically! I don’t have VR equipment but I tried it on my laptop and phone and both worked great.

\n

Excellent work integrating a basic 3D engine with several models and textures, animations, lighting / shading models, shadows, normal mapping, physics and even a soundtrack and unique sound effects for each gadget all within 13KB!

\n

The puzzles are easy enough to understand and the cats very cute.

\n

Great entry, very well done!

Very impressive how much levels and different mechanics you managed to put in your game, including music, miauws, generated textures, etc.

\n

Puzzles were quite hard at times, i.e. not too easy but just right.

\n

The only negative was that I couldn’t get stuff to work in my Quest 3. The gaze control was moving a lot where I didn’t want to go, sometimes I could not move pins, making the game unplayable.

\n

Overall one of the best this year!

Played on desktop, but the controls work just fine. The levels were a joy to complete, and the contraption mechanics were really fun to discover. The cats were hilarious too. Solid game overall!

I would have preferred the WebXR version to use controllers instead of being gaze-based, as it felt a bit uncomfortable that way. I ended up playing it on desktop instead, which worked better. The idea itself is very original, with lots of different puzzles — a bit sadistic with the poor kitty 😅, but really well executed considering the small size. Great job! 👏

I need to be honest – the control scheme significantly held back what is otherwise a really enjoyable puzzle game in webxr mode. The orbital camera rotation felt unintuitive and fought against my natural instincts, making navigation really difficult rather than smooth. I used it on desktop instead and was impressed the the graphics given the 13k limitation as well as the gameplay and puzzle variety. The varying fur patterns on the cats was a really nice touch.

The game is fun to play. However, in XR mode, it would be better to move away from gaze controls (which were fine for older devices) and instead use hand tracking and/or pointers. Adding hints to help solve the puzzles would also improve the experience. In terms of graphics, slight improvements—such as including a sky element - would enhance the visual appeal.
