It’s 1924 and you’re trying to make in big in Hollywood as a movie star. But you have to start somewhere, so you work as a director’s assistant’s assistant and move up the ladder.

\n

Experience the fast paced movie industry under the wing of 4 terrible bosses who will give you 13 increasingly terrible stunt jobs to perform. Can you survive the pressure? Watch out for level 13!

\n

Any resemblance to real people or events is entirely intentional.

\n
\n

🕹Controls: WASD, ZQSD or Arrows and follow the instructions on each micro-game

\n

In story mode, each boss has a set of fast paced micro-games to play. Your progress will be saved so you don’t have to repeat from the first boss if you die.\nIn endless mode, you can play all 13 levels in increasing difficulty and in random order.

Really nice style, love the simple but fun graphics. Like the concept of repeating the same tasks (mini games) over and over with little changes.

\n

The landing safe was quite tough, thats what caught me out mostly, like when I got to level up I could literally climb the ladder :D

\n

Nice entry, lots of fun!

Fun! I made it to the 3rd “speedup”, and then things got crazy. It was great to watch your progress on Slack over the competition, and to see the addition of more mini games, and more polish. Sound effects and music are perfect for the game, excellent choice. Great job overall!

Very fun Warioware-style mini games in low-pixel art to the theme of working for a Hollywood studio. The animations are fluid and rewarding for completing the mini games. I think I experienced every game and they were very creative and mostly fair.

\n

The story mode was too hard, so I went for the endless mode and found that you can play more of the mini games there. The one game that I felt was unfair was the falling house wall. You would only figure it out how to win after losing a few times knowing generally where you need to be. Sometimes the controls were too tight so I’d move too quickly.

\n

A slight acceleration in movement before going top speed would help with allowing players to move in smaller increments. But other great mechanics like floating off the edge and late jumps off the edge were there, so that helped.

\n","games":["13attle TanKs"]},{"typ":1,"at":379537737,"re":379510532,"author":"João Lopes","login":"lopis","gh":2715751,"url":"www.jlopes.dev","text":"

Thank you for the feedback. It was the first time I’ve implemented a platformer from scratch, so your feedback about the movement is very valuable.

\n

I guess you have a point with the falling house level. I tried to have different mechanics, and there’s only 2 levels where you die if you don’t act quick: the falling house and the wheel. I think both suffer from that problem, but on the other hand, that’s a feeling I often felt when playing WarioWare. I’ll try to make it more clear from the get go in a future iteration.

Well made, art is good and musics fits the mood.\nGameplay could use some variety/complexity, though.\nEDIT: Why have you removed half of the level types from the story mode!?\nI assumed that’s all, and would vote accordingly, if I’d not notice a mention of more level types in the comments.

\n","games":["Terra Mobilis","Triskaidekagenesis"]},{"typ":1,"at":379639528,"re":379571739,"author":"João Lopes","login":"lopis","gh":2715751,"url":"www.jlopes.dev","text":"

But I haven’t removed them! Simply each of the 4 bosses has a subset of all the levels, so if you play the whole story mode you will see all the levels. I did it like that because a) I thought it would be too much to have all 13 microgames at once to learn how to pass, as testers complained the game was already too hard, b) I wanted all bosses to provide some level of freshness to the game.

\n

In a future iteration, I would like each boss to actually have 13 distinct microgames, for a total of 13x4=52, but that was impossible to achieve in the limited time and space, so I settled for 13 games split among the 4 bosses (with some repetitions).

Ha, super fun game! Endless mode is a lot more fun than story mode, due to the much increased variety, which might not be obvious from the choices available.

\n

Really nice gameplay, polished graphics and style, and solid minimalistic but fitting music and sound effects. The link to the theme is not the strongest, but it’s there.

Story mode has all the same games as endless mode, but each boss only has about 5 distinct microgames, as I wanted the story to feel fresh with new games as you progress.

\n

I guess I forgot that most people would not play the whole story mode (granted, it’s pretty tough even for me haha), so I should have made the first and second bosses more engaging. I’m taking notes :)

Love the style and the WarioWare style gameplay. However, you have to account for different screen refresh rates. I have a 120hz monitor so the game was double speed for me and extremely difficult to control. I’m guessing some of the other reviews complaining of the speed also had the same issue.

\n

This was a rare game where I liked the concept and polish enough to go right click on my desktop, choose display settings, choose advanced settings, choose 60hz, wait for screen to reset, choose “Keep”, and then go back to the game and try again. Then do that all again to revert my changes back to the correct refresh rate. But I shouldn’t have to do that.

\n

I think that one little fix would have helped a lot because not everyone will know to do that, and may think the game is just too fast? Still, I think it’s a very good entry.

That’s odd, because I did take into account different refresh rates? I’m both limiting the frame rate as well as doing all animations and timers relative to the time delta. I’ll have to investigate why this is still an issue. Thanks a lot for the report
