The combat became nothing more than a decoration after I fell a couple of times in the lava and got strength upgrades. It’s personally a shame because I preferred that instead of walking through narrow passages to avoid falling, but is just a personal preference. Good job!

\nSorry, I had to start like that :D
\nWell, it’s an impressive entry.
\nLava is moving, game is working… I liked to dash all the things more than fighting (it’s a bit clunky), Make the character more visible, I didn’t understood fully where are my characters when playing.

Love the voxel grounds and the glowing globes. Lava is great. Congratulations

\nI’m guessing the texture of the platforms was added randomly to add a bit of variety to what could otherwise have been quite flat platforms.
\nSound and music were great.
\nThe game felt a little slow, especially during combat. The dash improved the navigation but combat felt slow.
\nI got stuck a couple of times where I couldn’t return attacks to an enemy as my character kept turning away from the enemy.
\nWhen I died and the bonus screen appeared, I felt it would be easier to press left/right and attack to select the item, or even use the mouse.
\nI’ll play this again on gamepad once I’ve voted on some of the others, I enjoyed it.

\nI wish the music didn’t restart for each checkpoint. I don’t think I was able to listen to the full track, which was well made by the way.\nI also think the game could have been a little bit more difficult, and don’t add that much bonus to the player for each death. Maybe adding bonuses after each 5 death would be better. And also respawn all enemies when you die. I also think the sword attack interrupted the eyes attack, but it would be better if it didn’t.
\nThe boss fight was the best part. I felt like the dash came in handy there. I used it to dodge the attack of the boss + the red circles from the golf ball eyes.
\nMaybe the controls would be easier if the camera was a little further away, and slightly adjust the angle to get more sideview (instead of bird view.) I don’t know if this will make it better, but I wish I could see a little more on screen. The lava looks really nice, but maybe it seems to be close to the player (even when elevated.) I wonder if it would be better to have lower contrast on the color on the lava, plus some shadows from the platforms, but I’m not sure.
\nMy comments are mostly personal preferences and some nitpicking, but I hope they are useful. This is a solid entry with lots of good stuff. God job!

\nThe upgrades upon death are an interesting mechanics, but it’s too easy to abuse it by dying a couple of times at the very beginning to buff up your stats, then enemies aren’t very challenging anymore.

Its good that you have this as an option and can change it mid game.\nTook a few attempts to beat the director, on my last go it took just one hit I presume the damage is accumulative?

Everything like the music, after death buffs, the dashing around, all make the game feel really nice for it’s size. There is a nice story behind the game too and you interpreted the theme really interestingly but not boringly (which taxes almost always are). You managed to fit a lot into the game which is really impressive and not cluttered!
\nLooking at your other game, the dash + strike combo is a reoccuring theme but you do it well. Grouping the enemies together before dash/striking them all at once without taking damage feels really fun. Also the dash for movement is nice
\nGoing forward, I would maybe look at the general movement, although I understand that (especially at this camera angle) it can be harder than something like an fps.
\nReally nice work all in all, love that the lava moves too! Good job!

\nI’ll start my review with “wow”.
\nGame is very good in my opinion, I like the idea (everyone loves taxes :D), I like the graphics and I like gameplay side of your project. Main character moves really smooth, overall feeling is amazing, maybe attacking could be a little bit faster because sometimes I just bump into opponents before finishing blade slash but maybe I’m just too slow :D
\nFor a 13kB game this a solid piece of work, would like to see enhanced version with more levels in future.
\nGreat work, I’m looking forward to your future games and hopefully more entries in Js13kGames competition!

\nIt’s a full experience. Well done, finished project, etc.
\nI managed to get through the game rather quickly, upgrades were not needed. Still, it’s a nice balancing mechanism if the game would be longer.
\nI’d probably like it more if the move was more fluid. Because after each attack I get stuck for a moment. I understand that it was done like this because of gameplay (to not spam attack), but it feels bad when playing.
\nIn the last room, I run to kill Eyes first just to discover they are on towers :).
\nSeeing all milestones from the beginning told me about my progress. On the other hand, it removed possible surprises (or if there were any I didn’t find them)

The graphics are impressive, but the game performs a bit slow. The controls suffer from a bit of delay too, and the movements are generally a bit slow. It’s definitely an impressive feat. Great job on the music, although there’s a gap of silence between loops.
