Art style is wonderful and gameplay is fast and fluid. Only one very minor complaint which is when I died the first time, I couldn’t restart using the controller, had to go over to the keyboard. After that though I played all the way through to the end and enjoyed it all the way through!

I really like the way it looks. Unfortunately I had trouble with the controls on a macbook laptop. I would click and hold the trackpad and sometimes it would shoot, sometimes it wouldn’t. When I did shoot, I couldn’t move the cursor otherwise that would stop shooting. It made it really difficult to fight so I wasn’t ever able to fend off the enemies.

Great visuals, great music, great sound effects. The enemy design is a brilliant use of simple primitives to create something terrifying. The enemy alert sound was perfect. I had a true jump scare the first time I hit 13 and all of the enemies turned red and went into overdrive. Reminds me a little bit of 2018’s Underrun (in a good way). Great job!

\nI liked the gameplay as well. I can’t see the enemies coming up on me, so I always feel a bit nervous about moving.
\nThe map on the lower right was very helpful when I wasn’t sure what rooms I’d visited.
\nAll in all the best submission I’ve seen so far. This link is going on my list and I think I’ll be playing it long after the contest is over.

Six and Seven is one of the ways to get exactly 13 altar torches. Fair notes, I switched from melee to shooting way too late in the jam and really didn’t playtest with folks at all. Agreed on the bomb mechanic, it was a bit of a tack on to add variety without giving the risk/reward of it much thought. Thank you so much for playing, and for giving your play-by-play on X, I enjoyed seeing the play-through. :)

\nSeemed quite easy to keep HP up, just keep killing the mobs and collecting the health but I did manage to die on level 3 or 4. I liked the areas you had to activate and protect to complete the level. Some of the levels were pretty large!
\nThe enemies looked great.

The music and sound effects also perfect complement the game. Nothing feels out of place, annoying, too loud, or too glaring.
\nWith that said, I found the gameplay a bit on the boring side. For starters the game play is very slow. Maybe it helps setup the vibe of the game, but it could be a tiny bit faster.
\nI played through 3 dungeons but I didn’t feel a progression in the game. I presume the dungeons are procedurally generated. But they all felt very samey, and I never felt like I was in danger of being swarmed by enemies. Because i could precisely point my gun at the enemies, they were very easily killed ta a distance.
\nIn summary, the game looks great and is technically very impressive, but I would try to make it more engaging and provide a better sense of game progression on each dungeon.

Just a bit frustrating sometimes when enemies spawn just on player, it should have a minimal distance I think\nAnd on a “ZQSD” the “Q” didn’t worked for me (I used arrows instead, it was fine)

\nThe dithering on the lighting is amazing! Art style, controls, music, gameplay - it creates a wonderful game. On the bad side I managed to reach level 7 and one of the torches spawned right on the edge of the level, meaning I couldn’t get to light it completely and move to the next level. Despite this, it’s a great game, good job!

\nI especially love the gamepad-mode! That feels great!
\nOne tip regarding gamepads: i have a headset plugged in, which also identifies itself as gamepad (maybe because it has some buttons, who knows…) You are checking only gamepads[0], which currently is my headset, and thus, the game is not controllable by the additionally connected xbox-controller. So I had to disconnect the headset to play ;-)
\nI had the same issue with my game, and solved it by searching for a connected gamepad with mapping == “standard” and using this for the input.
\nGreat game!
