Simple Sailing Simulator: Brave the north wind and search for York, or simply explore.
\nYour sailboat travels fastest going perpendicular to the wind.

The game is fun, but I would have liked some predictor of the wind in the game and the zoom seems to be broken. I think this is a great small start and hope the next one builds off what you did. :-)

Would really help if you could see the wind direction. The camera pan seems kinda pointless and seems like can’t zoom unless you have numpad.
\nI think you should also be able to rotate the sail separately from the boat for better movement control. And visually representing the sail better would help too.
\nMoving the camera and zooming (if I could even do it) actually take away from the exploration in my opinion. As you wouldn’t have to actually explore to discover new things.
\nThe low framerate with the jumpy camera movement make it not look very smooth. And the “living pixel edges” don’t really help much either. The pure bright colors make it a bit rough to look at too. Would be better to tone them down a bit and make them more harmonious.
\nSo yeah, ironing out these control issues and maybe adding some actual incentive to keep exploring and it could be fun. I loved just sailing around in Wind Waker finding treasure.
\nGood job! 👍

It was relaxing and fun to just sail around for a bit. Not sure if the controls are W/D or actually A/D. I think this game would really benefit by simple things like dots that represent port towns or continent and island names. It would give the exploring a sense of purpose in my opinion. Great work.

\nadd some more things to see as you travel and make controlling easier.

I know it said about the angle to the wind, but I wasn’t sure how to determine what the wind direction was other than turning.
\nFor me A and D seemed to steer the boat, rather than W and D.
\nI wasn’t sure why would would want to zoom the map so much that your boat was no longer visible?
\nI like the idea of the game, to explore by boat, but found it a little hard to play.

The camera zoom didn’t work for me, but the controls did, and I liked sailing my ‘arrow’ around the blocky green landscape for a while. I tried to pan the camera, and the game crashed, locking the tab in an infinite loop, so I cut it short at that point.
\nI assume the game ends if you manage to find York? There’s precious little else to look at or do, but I didn’t mind just sailing for a few minutes. It would definitely need something else to hook me for longer.

\nIt’s certainly the start of something great! I love that you’re rasterizing your own image in wasm, the sailing is starting to have that lovely momentum dragging & tacking feel, the map coastlines look interesting, and it’s nice and huge! A few generated labels for things here and there, a HUD showing fluctuating windspeed and conditions, and some thin excuses to sail to various points of interest, and you could easily entertain folks for an hour in here.
\nPSA: the zoom controls only worked for me when playing the game in Firefox. The code uses the event.keyCode property to determine what key was pressed, and 173 (zoom out), 61 (zoom in) are funny ones. In Chrome, you’ll actually get zoom out on your keyboard’s “mute” button if you have one, and I’m not sure if anything goes to 61. Next time, you probably want the event.key or the event.code instead!
