Shikken was the title of the supreme leader of Japan during the 13th century. When the Mongols demanded that Japan bend the knee, the shikken of the ruling Hōjō clan commanded the forces that prepared for the invasion, and were ultimately successful in keeping Japan free.

\n

Take control of the shikken’s defenders in this minimalist-styled, Zen-like, city-builder resource management game. Expand your network of buildings, upgrade them to produce resources, and manage the growing workforce. Pillaging Mongol invasions will be ever present until two divine winds (“kamikaze”) come to the rescue.

\n

How to play

\n

Tap or click and drag to move the background map around. Tap a crossroad node or building, tap “Upgrade”, select an upgrade that you can afford. Tap “Jobs” and reassign your people represented by moving circles of different colors. Many buildings will take some resources as an input, and after workers work there for some time, they will output something else. You’ll need carriers to transport goods from place to place, and you’ll need to turn buildings on and off to prioritize certain production. To unlock “Kamikaze” build rice farms and shrines.

I love minimalist-styled graphics. Also, the concept of connection is great and innovative! But it’s a little bit confused what to do in the game. It will be better to provide some in-game tutorial!

I really like this settlers-gameplay and the clean look of it.\na tutorial would be fine, it took awhile until i figured out how to play it.

This was great! I think the look was pretty successful, minimalist but with enough character from the palette and the layout to invoke a Japanese scroll. Audio was missing, but I ended up playing a while so I cheated and played some koto music in the background.

\n

I did play until I could fire the kamikaze, but I’m not sure if it crashed right after. I’m not sure I actually understood enough about how nodes and carriers worked to actually optimize, but eventually there was just enough stuff going on that the invaders couldn’t overwhelm me anymore. Had a good time playing that far!

Great game, like others it took me quite a while to understand. I was struggling until I started building storehouse sor warehouses, which I didn’t realize were integral to organization. The graphics are good, I liked the way it was all on a book and you scrolled over to the game. simple but effective, not overcomplex. Though, a lot of the structures were difficult to tell apart, and I had a bit of trouble understanding which resource was which early in the game.

\n

I spent quite a while playing it, its a very good game once you understand it. I managed to send the second Kamikaze, which pauses the game and puts a peace symbol in the top left - it didn’t crash for me but I can see how someone might get confused at that part. Congratulations!

Very polished, I liked the book style. I feel centering the first node would had made it more interesting. Or adding some random nodes in the initial map. Nice work.

Minimalist, polished, and stylized little simulation game.

\n

The “drag-left” interface with the gameplay to the left of the title area was unconventional and therefore confusing to me. It took some time to understand what the game was asking of me before I could see what was happening.

\n

The goal / progression was not clear to me but the game is on theme and well crafted. Good job!

I had so much fun with this game. At first it was really frustrating because I just couldn’t grow enough soldiers to fight the enemies without losing 90% of my population, but eventually i was able to have a nice city with a big surplus of resources. Unfortunately, when I was reaching 50 people, the game became unbearably slow and I had to stop. On my phone it was too slow to play from the start and panning the map triggered the page refresh gesture.

\n

Very simple but effective design. I really liked the soft colors. Some things were annoying, like how the stock said “wood, wood, wood, wood, wood” instead of “wood x 5” which made things a bit confusing later in the game when i had dozens of items. The game was a bit confusing to understand at first, but I eventually got the handle of things.

\n

I would have liked a way to know how much of each item I have in total. It’s very hard to distinguish between what is a brown square or a brown triangle or a brown triangle but pointing up.

\n

I didn’t like having to move the screen around all the time. That’s a nice feature on mobile, but on desktop it’s not necessary. Let me just see the whole map or zoom out. The UI in general could be more ergonomic.

\n

I didn’t understand the purpose of the priest and I didn’t see an option to build shrines.

I really like the visuals, minimalist style. There’s enough complexity with various upgrades and such that it really has a lot of playability! The complexity of everything tho is pretty nicely hidden behind the relatively simple interface.

\n

Only thing I wanted was some sort of overview of all the resources I had available.

\n

A few things it took be a while to figure out:

Took me a little bit to figure out what to do here, but “city-builder resource management game” was enough to keep me hooked until I figured it out.

\n

Overall I love the graphical style (and it does look Zen due to the minimalistic feel), however I would definitely not class this as Zen in its gameplay (and that’s not a bad thing at all), I was always conscious of that timer on the top left.

\n

I think the UI is a little too big for the game, at times it took up more than half of the screen unnecessarily.

\n

If I have more workers than worker-places they get confused and abandon on of the places and congregate at one place though - not sure what caused that behaviour.

Overall, it is a solid strategy game. I had a fun time building my village and defending it. Thanks!
