A fast paced word game. You have 13 seconds to solve the words!
\ndrag and drop is capricious on pc

Is there a particular browser where the drag and drop is worse? I’d tested it on a windows pc (edge and chrome), mac (safari and chrome) and asked a few friends to play it on their phones.

But I think there should be at least 1 letter already present (or more on the longer levels) so I can try to guess what the word might be right from the beginning, instead of having me spam place the first letter myself. There were some weird word like “HANDO” and others that I even didn’t managed to read at the end because the level complete screen was placed on top. Also I think it would be much more interesting if this was a puzzle where you have to solve each word(s) in 13 “moves” or less, as this time control doesn’t work very well in my opinion.

I was going to put the completed level message in the middle of the screen so it did not affect seeing the completed words. But space was a bit tight on mobiles, so I went with the popup, which has the downside you cannot see the words. For the weird word I guess should have explained in the instructions that the horizontal tiles make words and the vertical tiles make another word so ‘HANDO’ is really ‘HAND’ and ‘DO’. I’ll try out switching to limiting the moves instead of time, thanks for the suggestion!

\n1- make all letters visible instead of brute frorce guessing game
\n2- instead of us adding all make few missing letters that player will complete
\n3- something that give a clue of the game, make the grid much bigger than single line or two lines its just not worth playing half hour to reach to the interesting intersections make it there right away
\n4- music sometimes add something to gamaes, even that I’m of those who keep it muted mostly but its a valid aspect and alot of easy ways to integrate sound in the game without costing much bytes into game
\n5- menu would be great in whatever game, I’d say its essential even so games without a menu are just for dev phase, seeing the low byte size of game I’d say you should have spent an extra hour using this extra space on game.
\ngood luck and hope you learn and become better in next games to come.

\nOne UI suggestion: when hovering a letter over a space that already has an incorrect letter in it (i.e. to swap positions of letters), it’s hard to see that it’s a valid move. The border changes from white to yellow, but I didn’t realize that at first. Adding a wider border or a more obvious color change would be good, I think.
\nBut ya, nice job!

\nAs it is a mobile game, it’s great, that you display the dragged letter a litte bit to the left and up (otherwise it would be unvisible below the finger) but the drop-targets should then also be activated by the letter itself, not only the finger position.
\nSome music/sound effects would add to the atmosphere of the game. And maybe some “eye-candy” in form of CSS transitions?
\nAnyways: Solid game, and only 7kB!

My partner also found that annoying that it was based on finger position. There was more I would have liked to have done but I simply ran out of time! I would have liked to put a ping sound when the word was placed in the correct spot.
\nGlad you enjoyed it and thought that it was good that I used the DOM 🥳.

\nWhen the words were to both sides, it made it more interesting and played a bit like a crossword.
\nI wonder if there was more than one way to make a word with the same letters?
\nThe game was easy to pick up and control although you have to guess where the letters go and then end up spending ages shuffling them around against the clock until they turn green.

I think adding less than 13 seconds for each correct letter would help a lot because I found it easier to just switch letters around until one matched, rather than actually thinking about the words at all.

One thing I was thinking about was loosing time (1 sec) for choosing the wrong slot. So you have to think instead of spamming swapping the letters and having the start time dependant on the number of letters you have to work out (so the start isn’t too difficult).

\nContrary to some of the other comments, I think it’s good that it starts with an empty field and the letters appearing after each other. It makes you think: what would be the likeliest position for that letter and which letters could still come.\nIn most of the levels the words already became clear after a couple of letters, so it was already easy enough in my opinion.
\nIssues with the Drag&Drop did sometimes cost me some seconds.
\nAfter the last level there should be some kind of celebration :-)\nI clicked “Next level” and after a while I was like “wait a minute 🤔 I know this already”
\nI enjoyed playing this :-)

I think you mastered the way to introduce players to your game, well done.
\nA little music would have made the game even more playable!
\nWorks very well on mobile too, I can see it working very well when playing on the tube :)

Gameplay ends up being mostly trial and error plus luck however. I think a percentage of letters should already be in place so you can guess the word right away rather than having to randomly choose until you get a letter right by luck. Some audio would be a nice touch! Good work
