This is pretty cool! There’s a lot more going on than I expected at first. The switching between night and day is a cool mechanic, and the music is nice and atmospheric. I had a feeling of dread for my character, even though he’s just a green square!

Nice graphics, audio and ambiance. Jumps are a bit difficult (too short). Next time please allow arrow keys and/or ZQSD for movement and jump, not everyone has a WASD keyboard!

Nice and funny entry! Loved the music and there’s a lot more features than I initially realized - I use to play before reading instructions :)

I struggled a little to jump and I believe the controls to trigger the actions could be improved. Maybe some hotkeys for the actions, and maybe they would be always visible, but disabled until I have enough resources?

I like the concept with an imminent threat of being chased

What were the blue orbs for, I collected one, but wasn’t sure what it did for me, I didn’t see any paths which needed unlocking

The platformer physics were a little hard to get the jumps right, maybe slower gravity or even coyote-time would help here?

Interesting game, getting chased at night definitely caught me off guard! I liked the night time music too, it helped set the tone. I appreciated having that tutorial as part of the start of the level too. The only small issue, and it might just be my keyboard but, getting the jumps right felt a little tough.

Wow, a lot going on in such a tiny 5KB game, congrats on implementing all that!

The day / night cycle with the palette and music change was some of the most atmospheric mechanic I’ve seen this year so far, loved that! It genuinely gets scary when the night begins and you start to get chased.

The platforming felt a bit too hard, I think maybe the gravity is too strong here so I had trouble navigating the map which didn’t help when I was nervous anyway of being caught.

\n

The controls were kinda confusing, you need to use space, C and the mouse as well, this could’ve been streamlined a bit better.

\n

Also, you had plenty of space left within the size limit, some more elaborate graphics could’ve been included instead of just the plain blocks for the map and characters.

I’m still playing the game but I needed to come write how visceral I’m getting from this extremely punishing gravity :P I managed to arrive at the first gap to build a bridge – and proceed to fall off it so far 3 times already. 4 times now. I keep forgetting space is not the jump, W is!! Also… the music and the cat coming to get me are starting to get scary.

I managed the bridge jump… and I need 5 BLUE ORBS, oh dear.

Oh well. After getting along the bridge building and trying some 10 more times, I managed once the 5 blue orbs, to find that I needed to build yet another bridge :)

Well, thanks for your submission! I can’t know how much effort you’ve put on the game, so don’t mind me if I get cliché or repeat ideas you simply didn’t get the time (or kb) to finish. Second, great you have finished this game!

Great work on the whole platforming thing you got going on. I did find interesting the mix between crafting, the night where the cat attacks and then you need to keep running during the day.

\n

I didn’t manage to pass to through the second bridge though. The lack of coyote time for the jump on the platform and the very heavy gravity was too frustrating and maybe for no fault from your side at all – browsers are tricky with timing and depending on very specific timings for making jumps is a recipe for disaster because it will not give a good timing for you to make the physics work nicely. It takes a lot of work to get these right.

And then there was the cat. For whatever reason those two yellow eyes, the song and the unforgivable one-touch killer were enough to make something went up my spine every time the night felt. But also it was something that made me dredge the game. I failed to do the daily mission, so now I was playing catch with the deadly cat at night on a low platform, so they would jump at me but miss. And even then, sometimes I missed the mark and their jump would catch me, ending all my effort to get somewhere.

Wow thank you for the great feedback. Yes many have complained about the movement in the game and it is something I will try and do better with in the next game jam.

I focused too much time on the features and not so much on the feeling when playing the game and will put more emphasis on that next time!

Solid (ha… that described the gfx-style too) game entry. I did not realise the first two tries, that there was material-gathering and crafting also involved, and all in a game with less than 6 kib! Very impressive.

\n

The jump’n’run controls/behaviour could use some fine-tuning, and some information about the remaining daytime would be nice.

\n
