The fear of prime numbers. Fear them all. Especially 13!
\nPlease read all instructions below. An introduction and tutorial were not added in game.
\nDon’t let the timer get to 0 and avoid PRIME numbers in your score! If your score ever equals a PRIME number, bad things will happen to you, especially if it’s 13!
\nIf your score is doubles (11, 22) you will have a chance to grab a power up! Collect as many power ups as possible to aid you in higher levels.
\nAdvance to the next level by getting to 100 or more score.
\nBeware of prime enemies. Contacting with them will deplete your score and freeze you for an instant, along with their shots as well.
\nPlace bombs to destroy enemies on contact.
\nIf your timer gets to 0 or you make contact with a large enemy (not the common prime enemies), you will die and will restart from level 1.
\nSmall hints around player: Bottom left green is what you should collect to get the next double, Bottom right red is what you should avoid for next prime, Top center white is your current score.
\nThe game is quite challenging, but is quite possible to win, especially collecting lots of powerups and playing with a gamepad! Hint/spoilers at very bottom of this page.
\nControls:
\nPress R, Space, Enter or gamepad South button to begin
\nUse arrow keys or wasd or gamepad left stick to move around and catch numbers.
\nLeft Shift or gamepad West button - Thrust
\nR or gamepad East button - Place Bomb
\nR, Space, Enter or gamepad South button to start over
\nM or gamepad Select to mute/unmute music
\nP to pause/unpause game
\nPower Ups: U - Magnet Increase, T - Thruster Increase, S - Player Speed Increase, B - Bomb Increase
\nHint/Spoiler territory below
\nThe mid-boss at level 7 is quite hard, but defeating it is not necessary to advance to the next level.
\nHighers levels do get quite hard but the final level is, you guessed it, 13. This involves a final boss fight; fortunately if you get this far dying respawns you at the final boss instead of making you restart the game.

After some 10-20 tries, I reached level 11 with score 1726. What a unique concept you have here, fits perfectly with this year’s theme! I had fun with this one. I think it has replay value since you slowly grasp what numbers to pick and how to avoid primes. Like, at first I was just picking even numbers but then, as I got a refresher on prime numbers, I started collecting odd numbers as well. And I did’t even focus on getting the doubles yet!
\nAfter several attempts, the game seemed very very difficult, as even at levels 4-5 the numbers were really fast and scarce. Also, after starting the game again from start, a previously ongoing disability was still active. You guys didn’t have some global variables that were not cleaned up, now did you ;) After getting the habit of refreshing the browser after each game, the difficulty seemed properly challenging and the middle boss spiced things up nicely.
\nJust a minor thing, but when having the fast moving “disability”, it was quite difficult to catch the numbers. Perhaps the game could be a bit more forgiving when collecting those (in player’s favor, not so eager to catch enemies :)? But yeah, I guess that was meant as a punishment so maybe it’s just me being clumsy :) Also, I did’t manage to use the power-ups when I happened to catch those, so it would be helpful if some help text would appear at the time that I could use them. But I guess time- and size constraints were limiting here :) But these things were really minor, didn’t spoil the game for me.
\nThe minimalistic graphics style fits the game spot on (at least I wasn’t missing anything fancier). Together with very good music and sounds, playing this is a rather meditative experience.

\nYou definitely found your stride in this game, just as we wanted. At first it is a bit difficult even with the helper numbers (green and red) below you and score right above you, but as you play a few more times you realize what you want to get and what you want to avoid, and even sometimes to get your score subtracted by purposely running into enemies.
\nWe really wanted a tutorial level to show and flesh out some of these concepts before the game really begins, but time and space constraints limited us here.
\nThe fast moving is supposed to be a punishment, like slow moving and reverse control.
\nI’m not sure if we explained power ups correctly or at all, but each one builds some stats little by little so it’s not really noticeable except over time. You will eventually notice that you are faster, and that your boost button actually works for a time after you collect enough power ups, your magnet attract gets stronger, etc.

There are many different mechanics and systems to try to juggle in your head! I found the “don’t let your score equal a prime number” rule a little frustrating, so my strategy was to only go for even numbers. If I ever accidentally hit an odd number or hit a yellow number, then my goal was to patch my score and get back to an even number as quickly as possible. Personally, I’d recommend easing the player into the mechanics rather than enabling them all on level one. Impressive amount of content for a js13k entry! Nice music and sound effects too. Great job, congrats!

I agree with your sentiment, it can be frustrating/overwhelming at first. I played long enough to where it became natural, but agree that we could have eased the player in. Thanks again.

\nThe game is kind of cute in graphics and music, but I found the mechanics of the prime numbers too complicated for the game to be fun. Basically what I did was catch only the even numbers to avoid the primes without having to think about the current total. Because while I’m playing, I’m not paying attention to the total.

Solid strategy. The game does get easier and somewhat intuitive if you play it longer, but we don’t necessarily expect people to become experts at PRIMONUMEROPHOBIA!! Thanks for the feedback, and thanks for playing homie!

\nIntuitively, the score should start high and decrease with pickups, so that the highest density of primes is towards the end of the level.
\nGood idea with the hints, too. All in all, a solid little game, nice work!

\nI could reach level 13 but I couldn’t figure out how to beat the boss. By reading the game description, it seems I should drop bombs by hitting “R”, but it didn’t work, or I didn’t understand how :D

\nGraphics are basic, but enough to get the concept
\nMusic and sounds are good
\nHaving the controls flip was fun, was that in relation to being a prime number?
\nI felt the character moved a bit slow, and there was a lot to try to remember from the rules and instructions when playing.
