✨ Nyx Felis & Lampyris ✨

\n

Guide Lampyris through the eternal night, collecting fireflies and delivering them to Nyx Felis in the sky. When Nyx’s eyes begin to shift, your gathered fireflies are in danger - use your shield with perfect timing or summon more from the night itself. Both actions consume your precious bioluminescence. Survive until dawn (10 minutes) by managing energy, mastering timing, and chaining delivery streaks.

We didn’t read the description at first, so it took us a moment to figure things out, but we got the hang of it and really enjoyed the game! The sounds are cute, and the space setting is awesome. It’s very relaxing - the kind of game you can just lose yourself in for a long time.

\n

We did run into one situation: after reaching 1000 points and our resources ran low, it felt impossible to collect enough fireflies or defend properly. Might be a small balancing issue there.

\n

But the game looks absolutely stunning and runs incredibly smoothly on the Canvas API, even at high resolution. Great job! 👏🚀

Thanks so much for the detailed feedback! Really appreciate you noticing the sounds and atmosphere - creating that relaxing vibe was super important to me, so I’m glad it came through.

\n

You’re absolutely right about that resource management death spiral. I’ve actually fixed that in the enhanced version - the game now maintains a minimum firefly population and has emergency spawn mechanics when you’re low on both fireflies and mana, so you can’t get stuck in that “unwinnable” situation anymore. Your feedback directly helped improve the game!

\n

Appreciate the kind words about the visuals and performance too! Everything is vector-based rendering with Canvas 2D paths and gradients rather than bitmap images, which helps keep it smooth and resolution-independent. The firefly glow effects are layered radial gradients, and I use some canvas state caching to minimize redundant style changes.

Thank you so much! Seeing your playthrough on YouTube absolutely made my day, it warmed my heart to watch my little game on the big screen. I’m really glad you enjoyed it! 💜

I like the atmosphere on this one. The music and the nice sound effects and the graphical style really add up to the feel of it. The cat figure on the sky is lively animated and the animation of the whiskers when delivering the fireflies is a really nice touch!

\n

Good work on the introduction texts explaining the game elements one by one on the start. However, I think they could be improved by bringing the texts more to the center of the screen and perhaps with a bigger font. That way, they would be harder to miss as there are many text elements on the screen competing for the player’s attention. And even better when the text elements appear where they are most relevant, as it is now with the “overheat” text that appears near the cursor.

\n

Also, it could be more clear how well the shield timing worked. For example, instead of just a number (-4), it could say “4 fireflies lost”. Also, just an idea, perhaps a percentage score could show how good the timing was.

\n

All in all, this is a relaxing and atmospheric game. With some more gameplay elements and a bit more refined instructions, it could be even better!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such thoughtful feedback! I’m really glad you noticed the atmosphere and animation details, I really wanted those vibes to come through.

\n

Your note about the shield feedback was especially helpful; the game now shows “x fireflies lost” instead of just “-x,” so your comment directly improved it. I also added more detailed scoring on the game over screen so you can see shield timing rates, and the leaderboard is now live.

Nice visual effects and sounds! Also high-res graphics looks great (not sure how you achieved it on canvas). Good job!

Thanks! The crisp look comes from using pure vector rendering (Canvas 2D paths/gradients) instead of bitmap images, plus layered glow effects with shadowBlur. Everything scales smoothly since it’s all math-based - no pixels to upscale. The 60fps frame limiting helps too!

Very pleasant and calming game, and the art style is great. Timing the shield was challenging but I like that missing it is very forgiving and did not have too many consequences. After a while I did not even have to summon fireflies, there were enough spawning on their own. The animations have a lot of polish which is really nice to see. Great game.

Thanks! The firefly spawn rate was something I tuned a lot during testing, so it’s great to hear it settled into a comfortable rhythm.

This is a fun game, and pretty chilled out

\n

Your graphics are good, and very atmospheric

\n

I like the concept of your game, and you have coded it up pretty well

\n

Love the mouse cursor particles

\n

For me I couldn’t see anything specific that was missing from your game, so well done on a solid contribution
