Welcome back to Mor Chess 2

\n

An abstract shapeless form of chess.

\n

A cute fun little game with potential if you can overlook poor game-play and a few bugs.

\n

Have fun.

This game was interesting, though I think this would be a hard game to follow unless someone already knows the rules of chess.

I won, and yet I’m still not sure how the game works. I just kept clicking without knowing what button did what.

\n

I do really like the graphics though. Everything is animated, chess pieces are recognizable, UI wasn’t too confusing, cursor effect looks good. I would maybe tone down the wiggling a bit.

What the? I have no idea what just happened, but I won so it must be that I’m really good at this. If nothing else, it does accurately simulate playing chess against a cat. :)

All I can say is … huh?\n(It’s cute tho)

Another chess game I guess; but it’s a bit hard to understand the position; even though I’m rated ~1700 in chess.com; also I won on time (and I think the others too); but I don’t have a clue how to win otherwise. Good luck!

Nice interpretation of chess and cat

I’d love to see more metaphorical representations of the game’s mechanics. For example, the health bar could be visualized as a castle that gradually gets damaged. The central line (which I didn’t fully understand, to be honest) could represent something like the number of troops on the map - even just schematically, showing whether you have more or fewer units, whether you’re in an advantageous position or surrounded. Any kind of visual representation like that would help.

\n

Overall, this version felt easier to understand, and the graphics look more lively. It’s really cool that you tried to create something new and original - great job! 👏

I really liked the concept of abstracting chess. At first I was not understanding how it works and it took me a while to understand the yellow/red bar represents the time you can search for tactics. A tutorial or at least more information in the description would have helped. Another thing - I don’t know how it could be done - a visual representation of the position on a board would help the player and, I think, would be fun. I never played chess this way, good work!

Not what I was expecting from a chess game - which was refreshing! At the same time I found myself curious as to what my moves were doing exactly.

\n

Never the less, it has left me wanting to know more!

\n

A quick fix would be to explain what has happened with each game move in each text pop up - and maybe do a practise round.

\n

I think with the right amount of time this game could be something very interesting. I would love to see where it goes.

Definitely innovative, although I’m not really sure what’s happening.

\n

I think what I’m seeing is that each side has a certain number of seconds they are allowed to search for tactics; searching for tactics is basically “gambling” in that you could find a checkmate and instantly win, or you could run out your time and lose. My impression is that all the other pieces exist to set in certain postures that increase your chances of winning the gamble (or, maybe, you CAN’T win the gamble unless there’s the right combination of pieces configured? that is unclear).

\n

Suggestions: I think somehow tying your piece postures with the tactics search better would help understanding. E.G. have some kind of bar or diagram that shows whether your piece postures are helping or hurting your chances, and when it is a good time to search. My 2nd suggestion is: often I would just sit there while the cat opponent searched over and over without finding anything, which was helping me “win” (running out their time) but essentially I had nothing to do but wait, maybe the opponent should only be allowed to search 1-2 times.

Thanks for the suggestions. The piece configurations reflecting your chances is an excellent idea, and is a core mechanic, that must be carefully thought out and well designed. If done well it has great potential. Still I am not sure how practically possible it is, a fun challenge perhaps.

Hm, i suppose these actions are some chess related phrases (board-positions, strategies) ? “Fianchetto”, “on the 7th”, etc.

\n

I had no idea what i was doing, still managed to beat the cat (i suppose…)

\n

I like the presentation (especially the dotted background of the mousepointer, thats a neat effect)

Thanks for your submission! First, I can’t know how much effort you’ve put on the game, so don’t mind me if I get cliché or repeat ideas you simply didn’t get the time (or kb) to finish. Second, great you have finished this experience!

\n

I tried to make heads or tails out of it but I think I failed. It felt very impressive by the presentation and all the seemly random interactions I could do. I thought I lost myself a bit on it when I started to make sense of the tactics the CAT had.

\n

Listen, after passing on passive on open file, having the king centralized while all the pawns stay backward could only mean that the cat time would dissipate like the polka dots that were following my skewed cursor.

\n

I’m sure I was getting evaluation just by looking convincingly at those dark cat eyes. Where did you find that guy? There’s absolute no way they were not cheating. I could sense it, all that nonsense about chess not being a real game – only poker. I mean, WHY DID I START TALKING TO THE CAT??

\n

Sorry. As I was saying, I really enjoyed cracking this game, but maybe I should stop being flagged on my searches for the Knight Fork!!!

♟️ Sorry, I couldn’t really understand the game. I recognized the names of chess tactics, but I had no idea what impact they had on the gameplay. Maybe a clearer explanation would help new players.\nI prefer Mor Chess 1

From what I can piece together, this is like a chess game, but the actual chess strategy is abstracted away, and now we’re left with piece developments and progressions.

\n

It made more sense when I stopped thinking of it as chess and imagined a dice roll game. The tactics search is the dice roll and piece developments are done to improve your chances of a good roll.

\n

Definitely a unique concept, I think it has quite a lot of potential if the mechanics were somehow made more clear.

\n

I absolutely loved the juicy animations and UI.

It took me a while to understand, but after playing for a bit, I finally got a player win! Very unique concept.
\nI really like that there’s a “search tactics” option — that’s a nice touch.
\nI was wondering, what if the core concept stayed the same but the gameplay was more like Slay the Spire? That could be really interesting!

The game looks pretty funky

\n

The sound effects and graphics work well in a disjointed way

\n

I thought the mouse cursor was really cool, and the general splats around the styling were neat

\n

I wasn’t sure at any given point if I was winning or not

The game has a lot going on and looks polished. I like the UI and the sound effects.

\n

However I think you should have play-tested this early on to validate the prototype because I (and I guess most people, from reading the comments) have no idea what is going on, or what the effect of my actions is. Not only are the game mechanics not clear, but you seem to use lots of technical chess jargon that the casual chess player has never heard, and expect us to understand it.

\n

Besides the confusing paws between turns, I don’t understand the connection to the theme.
