You play as Mochi, a black cat who has been imprisoned in a hostile world

\n

You need to escape a series of areas under the cover of darkness to regain your freedom

\n

Electricity is not your friend, control it using red levers

\n

Water and sharp spikes are also to be avoided where possible

\n

You only have 9 halves of heart for lives, when these are gone you need to restart the level

\n

Your only defence against guardian drones and sweepers is to lure them to electric fields or water

\n

Springs can help you access hard-to-reach places

\n

Collect keys to unlock doors - press Down whilst on a locked door, then press Down on an unlocked door to use it

\n

Once you have collected all the coins, look for the chequered finish point on each level to progress to the next

\n

Controls are :

\n

Keyboard - Movement … Cursors / WASD (or equivalently positioned keys, ZQSD etc) / ZX;.

\n

Gamepad - Move…Left stick, Jump…Left stick Up or South button

The dialogue boxes are way too fast! I couldn’t figure out what to do on level 6 because I didn’t catch the hint (and I went in the game without reading the description :p), so I was stuck in it for a while.\nTwo copies of magnet sprite remain on the zipline while the magnet is moving, which is a bit quirky.\nApart from no sound and those minor visual quirks, this work deserves a lot of praise. Thanks. Yeah playing it back the pop up hints are too fast, and badly placed. I originally had them at the top right, but that went over the score, so thanks for confirming this. I think I had them fast as most of the tutorial levels are so short that if they were too long it would detract from the gameplay. The copies of the magnet sprite on screen are there to show where the start and end of the zipline are and to subtly show that you can ride them in both directions, so not a quirk as such.

This is a great game! The cat’s animation is adorable and very cleverly done, especially how it moves with the magnet. The visuals are pleasant, the magnet puzzle is an original idea, and the level design is good. The main thing it’s missing is music and sound effects. This looks really good. I loved some of the little touches around the levels like bones in the ground, the water looked cool too. The level difficulty progression was fair too. I would have liked to have been able to continue from the level I died in rather than from the start every time. Having to work my way back up each time adds to the pressure of getting things right, but I kept dying on Level 8 trying to lure the drones to their death and having had to play through from Level 1 to get back to Level 8 several times I just didn’t want to go through 7 levels again.

Thanks for your feedback. I did put something in to allow selection of levels quite early on but dropped it for space reasons. But I decided that if you die completely you should go back to the start. It does save the level progress, so that once you complete a level, if you then close the browser and come back to the game later you can continue from where you got to - but you’ll lose your score. Level 8 is pretty hard and for that reason should you ever make it to level 9 (which is a huge multi-room level) the hearts are fully restored! I agree it feels easier on gamepad, and for me platformers are just right with them. I did decide early on not to do sounds, so it’s not that I ran out of time or space, I just wasn’t very confident in my abilities to make a good audio landscape

Really fun game with responsive movement and smooth animation! I noticed that sometimes the jumps felt extra high even without using the springs, but overall the controls work well. Adding music and sound effects could make it even more engaging. I especially loved Mochi’s run and idle animations, they add a lot of personality. Great job!

Thanks for the feedback\nI agree the jumps need some calibrating, it’s partly due to Mochi being drawn at a higher resolution than the tiles

Lovely platformer, with tight controls that feel responsive. The vibrant pixel art looks great. I felt that the finish zone sometimes blends in with the other elements on screen and gets a bit hard to identify. But I enjoyed the game.

Thanks for playing and commenting\nYeah maybe when you’ve completed all the level elements, the finish could highlight itself better, I’ll add that to the directors cut

Love the chunky huge pixels, great style! Animations and effects with the particles, etc. all looked great. Mochi is super cute!

\n

I liked how the new mechanics are slowly introduced over time within the levels, without overwhelming the player.

\n

The magnet transport looks hilarious, one of the funniest moments I can remember from the games this year around!

\n

At first I was confused why I lost half a heart straight at the beginning. I understand the concept with the 9 hearts that add up to 4.5 full ones but it still looks strange. Also, I thought the NPCs were enemies that would hurt me, it would’ve been great to have some visual way of indicating their friendliness.

\n

Also, I feel like the jump was way too large even when I just lightly tapped the jump button, normally this would result in a small movement only to help with the precision platforming.

\n

Some indication when you collected all the stars would’ve been nice as well, sometimes I wasn’t sure if there was something more I needed to do before heading to the exit on the larger levels.

\n

Some audio is sorely needed here I think, I understand it’s hard to fit within the size limit but I was really expecting some simple retro walk, jump, hurt, win, etc. effects which would’ve added a lot to the vibes.

\n

Good job overall and good luck!

Great presentation and gameplay.

\n

I would improve a little bit the physics as it feels a little bit stiff.\nAlso the coins color is the same as platforms and it make me think they were platforms. More yellow will help.

Great entry

You have put your passion into this and it shows. Unfortunately I failed on door lock level. There is just not a straightforward way to lure the drones into traps and it’s a necessity to beat the level.

Thanks for playing. So drones and sweepers start off in patrolling mode, then when you get close to them they will follow you. To defeat them just lure them towards a trap (usually spikes/water for sweepers and electricity for drones)

The most beautyful game I played.

I’m missed some sound effect.\nBeside that, the cat sprite, enemy sprite, animated environment are perfectly done.\nThe control of the cat is also easy to manage.

Really enjoyed this platformer! The controls feel responsive and tight, which is essential for a platformer. The vibrant pixel art and animations are fantastic.\nThe level design is solid and the mechanics (levers, springs, keys) work well together. The 9 half-hearts system adds good tension. Some sound effects would enhance the experience, and occasionally the finish zone blended in with other elements.\nOverall a polished, fun platformer that captures the black cat theme perfectly. Great work!

Nice game! I liked the cover and the eyes art on the starting screen. The game is interesting and becomes more challenging while you progress the levels.

\n

I liked the idea with the messaging dialogs to give hints, however, those were disappearing a bit quickly so I accidentally skipped information how to switch levers.

\n

Good job!

Thanks for playing and your feedback. I’m proud of the level design on the last level - 9, as it encapsulates all the gameplay mechanics and a large level, so I hope you got that far. The directors cut version includes slightly larger levels and addresses some of the feedback I’ve had - all whilst keeping within 13kb.
