Lord Balsekil (do not look that name up in your Volapük dictionary, it might frighten you!) stole your seven purple lucky charms and hid them in his Lairs of Bad Luck. So fight him, his thirteen henchmen and your superstition to get them back!

\n

The game is a Rogue-like, especially it is round-based, so take all the time you need for your next step. There are two modes: a short game and a normal game. The normal game has thirteen levels, the short game is, well, shorter, for those who just want to quickly see as much as possible to judge the game. The levels are randomly generated, so no two games will be the same.

\n

If winning is either too hard or too easy for you, you can try to improve your score.

I liked the fog of war aspect of the game, it gives it more depth, animations to improve, overall a nice adventure

I love the game and it plays really well! This was done extremely well for what it is! Great work getting a nice rogue dungeon crawler working with 13k!

I think a prolog level would make this game alot better

A solid rougelike-like. The “fog of war” is nice.

\n

Would benefit from some music, and maybe some tweens in the movement (not jumping from A to B, but slide the player fast but smoothly to the new place)

\n

I was surprised, that my keyboard seemed not to work properly as i wanted to sniff the code with [F12] or just reload the page with [F5]. Found out in the github sources that you catch and abort all keyboard-events… the higher-level keyboardcontrols seem to work (change Tab, oben new window/tab etc.) so thats… ok-ish.. somehow,.

\n

I never heard of “Volapük” - thanks for the educational input :-)

Love randomly generated levels so you can’t “learn” them. Plus one for introduction loading screens.

\n

I like the concept; having “fog of war” around the map is interesting and fun to explore.

\n

Good use of sound effects, add some music for a bit more immersion. Very intuitive with the movement controls, but I did have to figure out to scroll the screen down to see the luck, items, level etc. Also I wasn’t sure what the newts were doing and ended up with a bunch of them following me 😛. I also got stuck trying to figure out how to go down the ladder - figured out to click with mouse, but I was using the keyboard, so would be great to configure this to also use “ENTER” on the keyboard.

\n

I wasn’t sure how to use items too… Q didn’t reload the game for me. Pop ups for end of game would be much easier to read rather than the in-game scrolling text feed.

\n

Good little description in your GitHub README. I like that you have different versions of the game.

Actually, the game tries to scale to fit the available space, so no scrolling should be necessary. But unfortunately and for some reason I don’t really understand, when you play it inside the iframe it fails to account for the height of the header. In this case you should open it in a new tab, there everything will be visible as it should be.

\n

As for starting a new game via keyboard, I should have been more explicit in the description: That’s a capital Q, so you need to press the shift key as well.

First run: 1192 steps, 1 lucky charm, depth 5, 1259 points.

\n

Second run: 2276 steps, 3 lucky charms, depth 8, 3423 points.

Well executed roguelike! Nice job with pixel art and sound effects. The “13” monster was adequately terrifying. Very impressive that you squeezed in so many of the traditional roguelike features like pathfinding and procedural map generation. Fun game! Nice job!

Great game, always enjoy this genre and you have done it well. I played the short game but lasted quite a while.

\n

Not sure what the diamonds are for? I did keep searching for luck but ran out eventially. I found the controls nice and simple, just used the mouse.

\n

Graphics are simple but good, I like the fog and the map being discovered as you go.

The lucky charms are what you need to win (6 are hidden more or less randomly, for the last one you have to defeat Lord Balsekil) and are the largest contribution to the score. Apart from that they have no function, especially they have no influence on your luck or fighting.

Fun little dungeon crawler. Figured out it was easiest to kite enemies as I shot them so the newts never could hit me. Eventually died when I couldn’t range attack because there were 2 enemies but the number keys wouldn’t target them but instead moved me around, then wouldn’t move or attack at all.

\n

Couldn’t go down ladders with the keyboard (< and > weren’t working, and neither were any other keys). Eventually found out that if I clicked the ladder with the mouse it would go down the ladder.

I’m sorry to hear that keyboard controls didn’t work properly for you. I have no idea what could be causing this.\nYou can also use the mouse for ranged attacks, by just clicking on the enemy you want to attack. (This doesn’t work when the enemy is directly next to you, as a melee attack will be performed in this case, but in that case a melee attack is better than a ranged attack anyway.)

A funny little charming game.

\n

Going around the maze of rooms exploring was good.

\n

I liked the pixel graphics and sound effects. The levels were pretty neat considering they were randomly generated.

\n

I thought I’d found a goat with a beef against me, but the info panel said it was a newt.

\n

The ravens were a whole new level, but the laser penguins? Wow some interesting enemies there.

\n

I couldn’t work out how to go down the ladder when I found one and thought I’d pressed every key on the keyboard. So clicked on it with the mouse which worked.

Just to touch on your sizing issue and your reply to Michelle:\nit’s not related to the iframe at all. It’s not that the browser or the site is not taking something into account - you are not taking into account your bottom bar (inventory etc.) nor any padding and borders during sizing, at all. It’s a basic resolution responsivity issue and it’s as simple as that. It exists regardless of the iframe.

\n

Given you entered in the mobile category as well, I’d expect basic device size responsivity to be a fundamental aspect to it, but you’re not actually tackling it in a responsive manner.

\n

Amongst others, browsers have resize and orientation change events. You are resizing your canvas on every render tick, which only happens after input, and contributes to the confusion of players, because you are effectively subverting basic UX expectations of how things on the web behave. Websites don’t resize when you click on a button - they resize when their window resizes.

\n

With those in mind, I think it’s disrespectful to tell others - like Michelle in this case - that they should do something, i.e. that they basically should adjust to how you played and tested your game, instead of you actually debugging the issue and adjusting to everyone else.

I try to move but only arrow keys work, no wasd. Ive never used number pad and not sure what it was nor could I find hjkl-yubn-keys.\nI was unsure of what to do so just held left and right continuously killing newts until I die but no restart. I also couldnt get up or down ladders, which was my fault after forgeting all the keys.\nI tried searching as I type but It didnt help.\nI also think you might be using the wrong keyboard event as the Rogue doesnt move for a short time when held down.\nHope this helps
