Knight Dreams is an endless runner arcade action platformer (yes, that’s a genre now), where you control a 13th century knight - or at least a 13th century knight helmet with legs and arms. Your goal is to do things that most 13th century knights do: collect gems, kill everything that moves and keep running until you die. As simple as that. Or maybe you are a 13th century knight having a fever dream, that would explain the name of the game.
\nYou gain points automatically or by killing enemies with your spear (the enemies die automatically when they hit your spear, extending it (or “attacking”) is not necessary). Collecting gems will increase the amount of points you earn by doing these heroic deeds (1 gem = +10% score bonus), but they will also give power for your… uh, propeller, that you can use to fly.
\nNice control, nice graphics, awesome tiny font :)

\nArts are gorgeous, controls are convenient and original (love the spear idea and the helicopter thing!).\nI would prefer to be able to go down on platforms, and more variety in ennemies would be perfect. But hey, it’s a very solid entry, definitively on my top this year :)

\nReally captures that “one more try” feeling. The start isn’t boring either (which is important for retries) as it gets back to action pretty quick and even the easier part is still important for scoring well.
\nNice enemy variety. Super easy to distinguish different enemies once you’ve accustomed to them. Those red flying ones are the bane of my existance. Really tough on faster speeds. But even more deadly were the spikes that I for some reason just could’t see when it got faster. That blinking animation helped to spot them out first but it wasn’t enough when moving fast. And I don’t even have any red-green colorblindness…
\nControls were pretty damn smooth. Though I would have wanted a separate jump button. I pretty much stopped using the attack completely because I kept confusing myself that key to be jumping. And the attack usefulness was really situational too and too often missing (jumpers or fliers) spelled your doom as the return from extend was so damn slow. Almost always it was way safer to accomplish the same with just moving forward myself. Having the spear shaft be part of the kill box would have helped alleviate this some though it would have been less realistic.
\nThe scoring system could have been more transparent in the game itself. Just read the “mechanics explained” now and had no idea about the gems contributing to scoring like that. Having some indication about it in the game too would have been nice. And the harder enemies should have given more points as a risk vs reward kinda thing.
\nThe flying meter was a bit too big in my opinion. Never had any issues in keeping the tank full as the gems were so plenty. Even so plenty that I basically didn’t intentionally go for them at all unless they were on my way as I didn’t know about their scoring connection.
\nVery good looking pixel art. The sound effects were fine I guess but there was only few different ones so they kinda got monotonous. Having music would have obviously helped with that too.
\nGood job! 👍

It doesn’t need a tutorial, and you learn a few new tricks for each run. It’s a great game with a nice color pallet, and cute graphics. Very well done.
\nI wish we would get some points for killing enemies, which incentives the player to take additional risks for a higher score.
\nThe only thing missing in the game is music, but overall a fantastic game.

I got hooked for way longer than I want to admit. I got tricked thinking the smiling enemies were friendly at first. It took me a while to figure out the flying (oops, someone didn’t read the instructions!)\nI wish there was a way to continue at the same speed or on a higher difficulty. After reaching high speeds and dying, returning to the initial speed was torture!\nThe sounds are cute but got a little annoying after a while. Add a background music and a little better polished sounds, and you’ve got a solid game you can release to the public here!
