About the level generation and difficulty

played almost 50 levels, very nice puzzle game and the use of abilities in some is very much needed to overcome the move limit, the graphics is flawless and the sound is calm and cozy, very good work was done here keep it up.

I really like this game. It’s simple and the levels are quick, but also gives you enough challenge, and variety. The animations are smooth, everything looks nice. If I would do something to improve the look of the game would be to replace all emoji with custom icons, and it would give it a more polished look.\nGreat job on the random level generation. I love the shuffling animation.\nI first tried it on mobile and the controls were very good. Then on desktop I was pleased to see that you also added hot keys for everything.\nThe music and sound effects are also good and not distracting.\nI had a random bug during the tutorial where I think I pressed some keys too fast, and this caused the choosing screen to appear twice, but only one was active. So I had to refresh the page to continue.\nI didn’t see the need to use the hint button, as all the levels I played were 4-5 steps and didn’t warrant any hints.\nThe level loading system is a great idea.

Thanks for the detailed feedback!\nEspecially regarding the icons. I wanted to focus more visuals this year, and indeed that would have been more consistent to do, even though I would have to cut the bytes elsewhere then.\nThe bug was probably the same I noticed 10min after submission 🙈 that you can click on the continue button multiple times (until the 🧶 animation is finished). Fixed that for the post-compo version.

📈 Really fun progression! The growing difficulty with new actions and personalities added along the way makes the game dynamic and rewarding.

Clever puzzle mechanics, meow really helps. But levels are too similar I didn’t see need to keep going. If I were you, I would have offload the generation script out of the actual game and run it separately, generate a bunch of levels, rank them individually into a level progression system. It could really benefit from a hand crafted level design and it asks for additional mechanics to break the ordinary.

Thanks for the detailed feedback!\nAt the end it was just the space/time constraints, so I only added some predefined challenges to the description. And I created those 30min before the deadline 😅 based on levels I had shared with friends.\nIn my full version the difficulty scales with the collected XP, but even that part didn’t fit in anymore 😿\nStill, good feedback. Will keep it in mind for next year.

Simple, with quick levels. I think it was very well done. A very quick but satisfying gameplay loop!

The randomness and being able to load / share the levels is nice touch.

Wow! I really like the gradual introduction of rules and cat personalities. The simple mechanics combine into a clever puzzle game, and it works smoothly on both desktop and mobile. The calm music and audio nicely complement the experience, and shareable levels are a great touch.

\n

My only gripe is that after a while the levels start to feel a bit similar.

This is cool! Nice graphics and atmospheric music! The rules of the game are simple but still result in challenging puzzles (for me at least, haha). Nice touch that you can load levels, as well.

\n

The tutorial was well done. I really liked adding rules and kittens one-by-one.

\n

Actually, the tutorial was my favorite part of the game… I was thinking, if you expand the game after this, it might be cool to add, for example, only 3 rules/kittens per run. That way, each time you play, you can have different combinations of rules, resulting in a unique experience each time. (Hopefully this idea made sense haha)

\n

But yeah, fun game! Really nice job!

Thanks for your kind words!

\n

Cool idea that you shared. My initial intention was somewhat similar: I didn’t plan it as tutorial, more like different config options you could add, but also remove. And let the player explore a huge config path network map with all the different combinations. And also adding more variants.

\n

To be able to stay in the limit, I kept it simple in the end and I think it also has its advantages being this simple. But I might explore some options post-compo.

This is really well done! It’s all very clear and understandable visually. I really like the ability to pick to add something new to the level’s complexity…and then I only have myself to blame when I keep taking so long to unite with the kittens!

I’ve really enjoyed playing this. The gameplay is original but also easy to understand and engaging. The tutorial’s progression actually made me hope there would be more personalities and skills to discover! There are lots of little details that compound to an overall great experience: the colored yarn animation; how you gave the on-screen controls tooltip, but only after I pressed a key for the first time; the randomization that happens before the player’s eyes. Plus the whole idea to make the puzzles shareable via a a simple text encoding, which can actually double as a level editor!

Thanks!\nYeah, I had much more ideas what to add, especially around the kitten behavior: that they would “grow up” and get more and more effects and in turn add new skills.\nOne idea was that cats can get stuck in the tree and you need to fetch the fire fighters 😹\nI think this year, I might work on a post-compo variant.

\n

I had the level encoding originally via the URL, which looked kinda cool in the address bar, but then realized that this doesn’t work with the iframe, so I had to change it last minute. Still happy with the alternative I found

A cute game with some well thought out game logic. Well done!

\n

I enjoy how after the completed levels, you get to choose your reward. Kind of like a choose your own adventure. This makes the game play unique every time when you are starting from scratch.

\n

It is great you stuck to the theme so well, not just in the cats, but their personalities also.

\n

Nice entry!

Absolutely delightful - the gradual tutorial, kitten personalities, and snappy loop hooked me. Slick visuals, cozy audio, and shareable proc‑gen levels (plus post‑level reward picks) kept me playing on desktop and mobile. After a long session a few levels feel similar, but I’m still smiling and coming back.

Thanks for your submission! First, I can’t know how much effort you’ve put on the game, so don’t mind me if I get cliché or repeat ideas you simply didn’t get the time (or kb) to finish. Second, great you have finished this experience!

\n

Great work on the level generation! I was very surprised to learn that it was randomly generated and then solved on the fly! Even more to know the variety of puzzles that were coming up from just random positioning. I know it eventually the solution space gets filled, but wow it actually showed some nice potentials and some different moves you could execute. Initially I thought it would always be a “Meow”, move or wait once or twice and then “meow” again, but it worked like that only 3 times initially.

\n

Eventually I was following closer the strategy of “which cat is unreachable in the number of moves” and solving it backwards from there.

\n

The tutorial was confusing but also very creative! I’m not reading descriptions or anything else before starting, so I was sure I was going to be playing a completely different game – some deckbuilding or roguelike – adding abilities and actions until the game was unplayable. But then, after some levels, I came to realize that this might be a puzzle and there could be some limit on the actions or some kind of step counter, which then I saw the moves counter. I was left wondering if it was there the whole time or not. Only afterwards I realized the first part was just a tutorial, and oh wow! It taught me all the rules without ever making me realize I was in a tutorial. No reading long pages or getting confused by the introduction of too many concepts at the same time!

\n

I really liked the atmosphere: the music – it was a little spooky and calm – and the cats eyes animations gave the board such an enjoyable place to be. I’m so curious to know if you’ll work more on this game, it feels like it could fit a whole cat family.

Simple but nice looking visuals, very cute kittens with their own personalities and a lot of content packed into it. The soundtrack matches the nighttime mood perfectly, too.

The gameplay is quite addictive, I got to level 42.
