A game about collecting numbers, creating good hands, handling basic math operators, shop for upgrades and get big combos while avoiding the number 13. “It’s like math but somehow even more boring” (actual quote from my beta testing kids).

\n

Controls

\n

Mouse to steer your square.\nLeft click to activate the shield, left clicking again while it’s active will deactivate the shield. The shield recharges when not in use. Colliding with a number while the shield is active will remove that number from the board, effectively allowing you to discard that number and hope that a better one appears in it’s place.

\n

Your number of lives are indicated by the blue circles in the corner of your square. Four dots means four lives, three dots means three lives and so on. 0 lives means game over.

\n

Playing the game

\n

Each hand consists of collecting four number. How those numbers are treated depends on the randomised mission of the level. Beware though! If at any point you add up to 13 you will loose a life. For this mission it could be to pick up the actual number 13 or if A+B or A+B+C equals 13. Different missions have slightly different ways to reach 13 so be aware.

\n

The mission AB > CD combines the numbers in a slightly different way. If A is 12 and B is 4 AB is 124.

\n

After a hand is completed a score is generated and a new mission is generated.

\n

Score

\n

If you complete a mission you will be scored on the base numbers involved. Exactly how depends on the mission. If you have the mission A + B + C + D your base score is simple A+B+C+D. Your base score can then be multiplied through a few factors like time, numbers have same colour and the poker quality of the hand (pair, straight, three of a kind etc)

\n

Shop

\n

Every third completed hand the shop will activate. Here you can alter the base rules of the game, increase score multipliers for certain hands, change likelihood for colours and number and increase your life (at a cost) etc.

High score: 131565, Best combo: 18900

This is pretty fun! Requires lots of juggling, especially late in the game when the screen starts filling up. Excellent interpretation of the theme, and you instilled a true fear of “13”. Fantastic music and sound effects as well. Tell your kids that I didn’t think it was boring at all! Nice job 😀

Very interesting game. Keeps you on your toes as you try to figure out what numbers to use for the given mission. Being able to remove numbers from the screen (like a host of 13s) is very helpful. Music was nice too.

\n

Loved the quote from your kids.

The game seems fun and i love the visuals and the music, but the game is surprisingly heavy for such simple graphics. It quickly became unplayable after just a minute of game :( Works a little better in Chrome than Firefox, but my computer still struggled.

\n

I’m not sure I understand the missions, and the feedback i get from the game isn’t clear whether i’m doing it right or wrong.

Thanks for giving feedback! I failed to test my game on other machines than my own. Too bad because I have a feeling that the things causing poor performance is the effects layers that are not really part of the actual game and should be quickly fixable (either by optimising them or simply removing them I guess).

The game looks great, the music is also really good.

\n

I have to be honest, the info panel has a lot of rules and aims, so the overall experience was a little overwhelming.

\n

I ended up pretty much just hovering the cursor box over all the boxes which appeared in no particular order and without regard to what the sum was doing and I seemed to always progress with my score continually going up.

\n

I didn’t end up using the shield, and when the shop list appeared I wasn’t sure which if any would be to my advantage?

\n

If the dots in the corners of the square indicate health, why did the squares with numbers in I was collecting also have a dot in the corner sometimes?

\n

As the game went on it appeared to become more laggy?

\n

I enjoyed playing, will have to give it to my kids to try out.

Hey and thanks for playing!

\n

I didn’t nail the whole explaining the game mechanics and the various moving parts at all, ran out of time for that sadly.

The music is incredible, well done!\nI liked the concept that matches very well the theme. I think a tutorial mode would be nice to help the player really understand the rules.

Thanks for playing! I agree that a tutorial would have been helpful, ran out of time unfortunately. Typical gamejam I suppose 😅

How is this so much fun!!

\n

Music is great, there are enough numbers that pop up so you don’t feel like you have to wait to long.\nThe graphics are just on point for such a game.

\n

No really, overall, not much to say, very well mastered!

the music is cool but can lower the intensity a bit, graphics are awsome and op animation is cool. the game itself is cool took me offgaurd when everthing switch to 13 suddenly, having the equation switch get bit confusing to focus on squares

My result is 28004. The best combo is 5737.

\n

From the first time I did not immediately understand what was happening and did not even know that I could activate the protective field, but then I read the description of the game and learned a lot. So at some point I could play almost forever :).

\n

Although I haven’t fully figured out the points, I like being able to make poker-like combinations. Also at some point I realized that my eyes were just wandering all over the screen looking for 13 :).

\n

It was interesting to remember a little math.

\n

Another thing I would like to see is the ability to turn music on/off. Although the music is pretty playable, it would be nice to have that as an option. And also have a description of the game in the game itself, players do not always read the description of the game, and when it is in the game, then you relieve yourself of responsibility ;).

\n

Maybe a moving background (stars) would add even more coolness :).

\n

It was fun, congratulations!

Clever game mechanics! It might be hard to do in this kind of constrained competition, but some kind of tutorial where the player gradually learns the various mechanics of the game would greatly help new players get into the game. Good job nonetheless!
