A small band of Templars has run into some eastern horse archers, and must battle through several waves to survive.

Touch to select, touch to move, then touch to choose which direction to face or touch another unit to select them. Double tap to stop on the current hex. The green meter is health, the blue is run/charge time. Charging in will do extra damage, as will attacking from behind. If you run out of run/charge meter, that unit will cancel their pathing, and move to the hex they are on. You can rearrange your units before you start. They will attack when fired upon, but you will need to give some commands if you want to win. It is actually pretty hard to beat.

Thank you so much for checking out my game everyone, I can’t wait to check out yours! I didn’t have enough time to spend on this game. My job is very physical and I come home really tired. I worked on this everyday, and am proud of the finished work, as buggy as the pathfinding is. Not enough time testing. It is only 11.7kB.

Nice hexagonal grid! Selecting and ordering units felt all right, although as you mentioned their pathing was sometimes odd.

I couldn’t quite work out what I was doing, or how to win all the way to level 3, but this is a fantastic start. There’s definitely a fun game in here somewhere.

\n

Loved the look of it, reminds me of old Sensible Soccer.

Nice little game. I couldn’t beat the level 3 (1 was easy, 2 was a challenge - 3 seems impossible or super hard). My biggest issue with it is that I couldn’t understand what each type of unit did - if I knew which ones were ranged and which weren’t, I could structure my army in a better way.

nice pixel-graphics and interesting table-top feeling

Loved the retro feel of the graphics! A bit hard to understand how I could actually affect the outcome, other than make sure my units didn’t obstruct each other. Very satisfying to see the enemies perish! Nice job!

Fun little game, but I couldn’t figure out how to win. I just don’t have enough soldiers to pass Level 3.\nThe music and SFX were on point and the graphics were really cute. While the paths were a bit wonky, I think it’s a good solid entry. It would look even more polished with a bit more care in the menus, buttons, fonts etc.

Pixel art and animations on the units are nice. The grass made them a little unclear though, a less busy grass design might have helped.

\n

Movement could be improved.

\n

Sometimes I was not 100% sure which were my troups and which were the enemy.

\n

The fights were entertaining and I liked see the arrows flying!

\n

Once my army was dead I could go into battle and instantly lose which was funny :D Adding in a reset would be nice bu I could just F5 to start over.

\n

You have managed to implement some nice features and its tough in 13kb so good going!

Fun but hard to find a good strategy. I just attacked forward and it worked on level 1 and 2., but level 3 seems impossible. With some different terrain types such as forests, hills and mountains the game probably would be more fun. The main problem is perhaps that there are too many units to move in a short time. If you need some inspiration there is a great RTS game from 1989 called North & South, see link below:

For a game with some clear problems this was GREAT!\nI loved the graphics (the arrows the gore the paths), hexagons are cool, the whole strategy, sending your troops into battle. Really fun!\nYou know, except for level 3 where you just get slapped around, LOL\nNot sure if the perma death per level was intentional but even that I liked. All of the feedback in the other comments are spot on, but this game the definite beginnings of something great!

I love hexagons! so I was excited to play right when I saw the game! it was really good, I like how fast the units wiggle as they march and I loved the cool pathfinding lines that previewed where a squad would go. excellent work.

Hello! Thanks for your submission to js13k!\nI’m sure you’ve worked hard on your game, but I’m not aware of how much time you spent on it, so excuse me if things I mention were in your mind, but got left out in the rush of the month or just because you hit the 13kb limit :)

Hi keith, goodjob on this submission! I really enjoyed the timing of the strategy game, and look forward to seeing what you do with it next. Here’s my feedback and suggestions:

\n
    \n
  1. There was a responsive issue on my desktop monitor where the game only showed on the right 50% of the side, and the left 50% was just for the mute button. Make sure to pay attention to responsiveness as UI is one of the biggest parts to any game!
  2. \n
  3. I really enjoyed the timing mechanic that was coupled with the unit positioning. Bonus points for this mechanic!
  4. \n
  5. The music was fairly appropriate, so good work there
  6. \n
  7. I liked how you added dead bodies to it - I couldn’t make them out because of the pixelation but I assume that’s what they were 🙂
  8. \n
  9. There were times when I couldn’t move characters that seemed like they should be able to move. Either it was a bug or intentional; but if it’s intentional need a UI element to tell the user what that part is
  10. \n
  11. Minus points since the readme wasn’t filled in any no license file on the repository.
  12. \n
  13. The source code needs some work - instead of having everything in one file, make sure to break up the code into multiple files with a coherent folder and file structure and naming convention
  14. \n
  15. Additionally, try to use typescript combined with eslint/prettier to help guide you (and others) for code quality.
  16. \n
\n

Overall it was a good submission, and I look forward to seeing what you do with it next. Hit me up on twitter @jedihacks for any discussion!
