Imagine Wordle, but for Math Geeks 🤓 (but don’t worry if you’re not)

\n

And now try to guess all the years of the 13th century with the provided clues.

\n

You start with a “blind” guess and then will be given clues based on the fun mathematical properties your guess shares with the secret number.

\n

These properties are:

\n\n

Each round will be a new random number in that range. And you can collect stars based on your performance.

\n

Don’t know where to start or how to continue? Check out the cheat sheet.

\n

Had enough of the 13th century? Check out the other ranges via the config wheel.

\n

Have fun!

Brain too smol, I just can’t compute prime factors of large numbers like that.

\n

But the premise of the game is very unique! I guess some visualization might help. Like, 30 dots is 5 groups of 6 dots each, something like that. To me, looking at that is immediately obvious, and saying “2, 3, 5” just isn’t.

\n

(Okay for small numbers it actually is, but for like 1209 having factors of 3, 13, 31 I can’t imagine that in my head at all, and I also can’t compute 39 by 33 on the fly anyway, because brain too smol.)

One thing I originally had, but then kicked out due to space reasons on mobile: was the greatest common divisor (or greatest known divisor). Meaning in your example: 30 = 2 * 3 * 5. (It was kind of duplicate with the factors, so I thought it was fine to remove). But I guess it could help making the next guess.\nE.g. You guessed 1260 and 30 was the gcd, then it can only be 1290 or 1230 …

\n

But in general for the 13th century numbers, I was also using the cheat sheet a lot, there are just too much prime numbers out there

Fun game! I like how you can try to get 5 stars on every number. I got over 200 stars while in a work meeting, without looking at the cheat sheet. Would’ve been nice to have a fun fact about the year to be more on theme.

Good idea with the fun facts! 💡

\n

I just was a little bit low on time this year 🙈

Really cool concept, definitely goes over my head.

I found the default mode 1201 - 1300 insanely hard without the cheat sheet!
\nBut I had fun with the easy one :D

I am not clever enough for this type of game but I appreciate the effort that went into it!

An interesting take on Wordle gameplay, but with a math twist. Mathle? Good stuff.

The parity property is redundant, as it also is covered by the prime factors, so in fact we only get two properties. Nice that you managed to add l10n.

True, if the player starts with an even guess, the property becomes redundant. I did consider getting rid off it, but decided against it, because this is the property everyone immediately understands.\nI was now rather thinking the opposite direction and giving more redundant information, like the greatest common factor, to give more support to non-math-geeks (:

\n

An additional property I did have on some point and wanted to readd if I had more time, was the amount of prime factors. So you would find out faster if it’s a prime number or not. My plan was to allow the player to “buy” this additional property for 1 star. And get matching digits for 2 stars (when you are really desperate for the solution)

\n

The reason I added German L10n was that I let my parents test the game :D

Fun puzzle game based on an interesting idea! As another commenter suggested, I think some way of visualizing the properties would be a nice way to get people with less of a math background interested in it. Either way, nice work!

Interesting, but really complicated puzzle.\nAlso need some calculator if you want to test different options and proposals.\nGuessed several digits on 5 stars, but it depends on digit delimiters mostly.\nNot the greatest game, but really interesting puzzle, good job!

Very original concept, fitting the theme of the competition. The clue system is well thought as well. Great execution!
