Throw scythe to engage enemies. Game is controlled with mouse, and scythe is thrown to direction where mouse is moved (or average of last 10 points). You get 20 points when scythe hits enemy, and loose one life when enemy passes field.

Grab your mouse to control death as he takes a stroll through the night, trusty scythe in hand. Unfortunately for him, random objects appear to be falling out of the sky. Should they hit the ground, you lose a life. So instead, you fling your scythe towards them. Hit them, and you gain points and get to carry on.

\n

The objects vary from a falling ball of sun to Egyptian ankhs. It does take a while for them to appear, but after around 400 points, things do get faster. In a manner similar to Thor’s hammer, your scythe doesn’t return to you until it has left the screen. So when you do get a case of multiple objects falling down, it pays to time your shot, so you slice through them all at once. Otherwise, you’ll almost certainly lose a life.

\n

The graphics are functional, and death himself is quite charming. There’s no sound or music, and I do wish it got more difficult faster because once you have to plan your attack carefully, it becomes a lot more engaging.

The game looks fun and with a quirky art style.

\n

I wasn’t sure how to control which way the scythe was thrown and so I often didn’t manage to hit much stuff. I tried moving the mouse one way or the other, dragging as I clicked and various other things.

\n

The graphics were well drawn and fitted the theme. I liked the spinning animation of the scythe being thrown.

Interesting game, but something’s missing. How do I know where the mouse is pointing? That was a bit confusing. There were moments when 5 seconds would pass with no “enemies” falling from the sky. I would personally make the game a little faster in the beginning, as well as increase the speed of the scythe. But other than that, it’s a cool game, with a good fit to the theme.\nExtra points for Death having “deaths”, not “lives” haha

I like the way we throw our scythe. Feels good to throw in the direction we are swinging our mouse. The art style is cute. I felt the glyphs coming at you had a different vibe to them, but it was easy to recognize them. Maybe it would be more fun with humans (in similar art style) coming towards you. Increasing the difficulty over time would make the game more engaging

The collisions boxes (by pressing ‘d’) are interesting, do you read from canvas to compute those? Swinging mouse to throw stuff is a really underutilized little mechanic, more games should do this.

I like the visual side of this game, main character looks really nice, the only thing that bothered me while playing was lack of any sound effect.

\n

Mechanics are simple and easy to learn but in my honest opinion, I think it would be nice to add some kind of UI indicator in which direction our scythe will fly because sometimes it didn’t go as I planned :D

\n

Overall I enjoyed the game, some possibility to choose the difficulty at the start would be beneficial in my opinion but nonetheless Game of Death was an enjoyable experience.

There’s something about the grim reaper, it looks awesome :) I had trouble immediately understanding where the scythe would go but I figured it out quickly.

Nice svg graphics and scene. Easy to understand gameplay, I got to a score of 500 before I stopped! Good job.

Congrats on the js13k release! At first I didn’t understand how to aim (because I didn’t read the description). Once I did read it I was able to play the game. I’m not sure I’m a fan of the way you throw the scythe though. I think I would have preferred a click and drag in the direction to throw.
