A game for JS13k 2024 by Ilya Kuzmichev and Alexandra Alhovik
\nThe goal of the game is to have fun through a series of bloody murders of happy students. Play and remember why you’re afraid of Friday the 13th.
\nA katana, an axe and shelters will help you in the murder, but beware of the police. You can level up by killing students and collecting xp points.
\nHave a juicy game and watch out for the police!
\nAwesome look! Reminds me of South Park.

But the feel of the game and all the gore made it still feel fun. Love that all the campers are in their underwear lol, true to the film. Played for quite a while and eventually got a memory error, which made me notice you’re using wasm!? Pretty wild, would be curious to know more about how the game works.

I hope it was fun to play! Yes, we tried to make a cartoon parody of the film, the difficulty is really specially simplified and the progression allows you to just enjoy the main mechanics, it becomes very easy to play.
\nThe game is written in Zig and it was my personal technical challenge to fit the whole game into 13kb, which is a bit unusual due to completely different tricks. I think this is an interesting direction for the community

Weird concept, but good use of theme; not my type of game, but you’ve done a great job on it.
\nMusic and sound effects are great. Love the intro screen with instructions, great transitions (scene transitions), and intuitive controls. A lot of blood… but good animation on it. White boxes up the top I assume are the number of people to kill, but even having a face or something next to this to tell what they are would be useful.
\nNice job on your GitHub README.

We are very pleased that you paid attention to our game. We were upset that you didn’t manage to get to the most fun part of the game. This year we wanted to devote more time to the technical challenge - to use the web assembly to implement the game. (All murders in the game are fictional and have nothing to do with the real world)

The sound effects and animation are excellent. I also enjoy the characters’ reaction.
\nIt feels like a solid starting point, and I hope to see potential for future development—especially more weapon options. It reminds me of Vampire Survivors, but with more active combat!“

\nCurrently most pipelines produce runtimes that are way too big to get baked into a WASM module for the purposes of this competition. This left little choice, other than basically C. I mean, it is possible to shrink others - like Rust - down to meet the limit, but it basically equates to throwing the entire standard library out the window, and you end up with a lot of useless overhead anyhow and little room for an actual game.
\nWould love to see more people taking on this challenge. Not sure how much of Zig you had to rip apart for this, but I do know that a Rust hello world print to console compiles to a ~150KB Win binary, and what it took me to write a 64KB networked Spotify player, including a Ogg Vorbis decoder and similar bells and whistles… (And yes, it can print hello world, too).
\nIt was an awesome learning experience to write it - and I hope yours was as at least as educational and entertaining as mine. And a tad less frustrating, hopefully ;)

\nAnd hope you enjoy playing our game!

Very nice and thank you for the good feedback! We have been thinking for a very long time how to fit into the size limit and make the start of the game softer and more understandable at the beginning, but we are glad that the points of lives and experience are still becoming clear. Initially, we wanted to make puzzles and some keys to get into the rooms with goals, but web assembly is a completely new experience for us and there was not enough time to throw something else :) once again, we are very happy and appreciate your feedback! Thank you!!

The katana and axe, really add to the thrill of the game, and leveling up by taking down happy students is surprisingly satisfying. The police add a great challenge, so you have to stay on your toes while racking up XP.\nThe design is simple but effective, and the game really captures the spooky vibe of Friday the 13th.\nOverall, it’s a great way to spend time and have a lot of fun!
