Story

Embark on a black cat’s adventure through the house, battling pesky cucumbers, a relentless robot vacuum, and slippery flippers — all in pursuit of his favorite snack: cookie.

Gameplay

Use the arrow keys to move and press Z to attack.\nIf you hit a cucumber, it will bounce back and strike enemies.

Classic formula, pretty well done! Was impressed when I reached the first “boss fight” (vacuum).

Suggestion: hitting cucumbers often disappointed me because two cucumbers would be right next to each other and would “collide” with each other, which made it seem like it wasn’t worth it. A potential improvement would be (1) make it so bouncing cucumbers never collide with other cucumbers (either they just delete them and continue on, or sail right through them), and (2) make it so if you manage to hit 2 cucumbers, they BOTH bounce back. This would turn the bummer of hitting 2 cucumbers into a victory instead.

Classic gameplay, with the nice addition of a cool attack and boss fight! 🎮\nThe music is pleasant and the controls feel smooth. I felt that using Z for the attack wasn’t the most intuitive choice — Space might have been a better fit. The hitboxes also felt a bit too large at times: I often collided with obstacles even when I was still quite far from them.

Some death animations particularly after bouncing a cucumber back at an enemy would have been a good addition, instead they just disappear off screen. It feels like the hit boxes on enemies are too big. I died lots of times with clear visible distance between the cat and enemies.

I like this type of game, however I think the hitboxes are a bit too unforgiving. I kept getting hit unexpectedly, which is a real shame because I would have loved to get to the final boss. I had a few longer runs where it got pretty chaotic and I liked it, felt like a cat-themed shoot ’em up.\nCats have 9 lives, maybe don’t kill the player until they take 9 hits?

Other than that, general polish here and there and I think this could be a really solid entry.

It needs some more feedback, and I think more forgiving hitboxes. Also, what if the cucumbers travelled at an angle depending on your horizontal position relative to them? Could make it more of an aiming challenge.

I love that we get to use cucumbers as a weapon, that’s the kind of absurdity Nintendo would be proud of :)

The gameplay is addictive; I couldn’t stop playing.

I have mixed feelings about the blur effect. On one hand, I found it a bit distracting, but on the other hand, it definitely gives the game a cool, retro vibe.

It also took me a while to figure out the attack key, but that’s on me – I should have read the instructions first!

Overall, it’s a really small, nice and fun game. Well done!

Love the graphics, love the sound effects, love the music - all very addictive. Nice work.

When I started it for the first time however, the cat moved so quick it felt like it flew off the screen! I love that you allowed for both controller and keyboard, however I couldn’t figure out how to attack with controller, so I switched back to keyboard.

Nice work, would love to see a leaderboard implemented too that way I can see if I’m progressing and getting better.

What a very delightful retro game!

The music and sound effects were also very nostalgic. This game would not look out of place on a Nintendo gameboy.

I like the robot vacuum being one of the cats enemies - I thought this was very creative and humorous.

A small thing to address would be the image resolution on a desktop. With this, you would really elevate this game entry.

The music was good and the sound effects work

I found it a little hard that the slightest touch and you were dead, maybe having health go down could help. Especially with the attack taking so long to be available again

I was a little hard to play on keyboard as the attack button is underneath the WASD, maybe if it was on the other side of the keyboard it would work better?

Anyway, good fun - nice touch with the dreaded cucumber
