It’s finally your chance to escape this hideous planetary system! You are sick of it’s lush valleys and dense forests! There is no easy way out though. The only reliable escape waypoint is in the middle of the system, through a warphole. To reach it, you need to win races on each planet to be allowed to jump to the next, one closer to the core and your liberty. You can make things happen faster though: after each race you are given the opportunity of skipping one or two planets. For each planet skipped one random element is added that might affect it’s difficulty! You will have to play to see which effects can happen and which ones are troublesome for you and not worth taking or which ones look like a free ticket to a quicker escape.

\n

You have two car options:

It was really fun to make this one! I overcomplicated it for myself making it happen on a sphere surface but in the end I was able to make it work and I think that it gives it a pretty cute look and feel! I hope you enjoy it!

Driving on the spheres is so cool.\nI’ve gotten to the rainbow road twice now, and both times like immediately ran right off the edge. If you keep working on this, it would be cool to have a retry option.

Thank you for playing it!! I know the last level is a bit frustrating but I left it like that to add an extra challenge to the game. If I had more time I would have make it so it returns you to the track and give a bit more time for completion to take into account the times you fall. At least on the easy mode. Thanks!!!

Thanks! I left controller support at the bottom of the todo list because I thought it was going to be difficult to tune the analog input but, as the most famous js13k phrase says: I ran out of time.

Fun game, playerd it to end. Maybe could be made more fun if levels would be more complex. Maybe, kind of “open world” with obstacles and checkpoints, or scavenger race. Or there were some technical limitations for that?

Nice game. It’s cool to drive on sphere! even if it doesn’t fit the theme.\nIt was frustrating to reach the last level and immediatly lose and have to restart everything without retry option.\nRaces should have been more variety, most of them are a bit simple and just circles

Great graphics, well done with the track on the sphere. I’m not sure if it just didn’t run well on my machine, but the controls were really hard for me - difficult to control speed/direction even with the easy rider.

Cool animations and love the intro screen. Should have a “press any key/space to start”. Controls are intuitive, but still good to have them on screen such as (left/right to select etc.)

\n

Music is fun, great concept, as a car racing gamer however, I find this super trippy - playing racing game from top down on a sphere! I managed to get around on my second try. Love that each level is dynamic (ie. the tracks are randomly generated so you can’t just “learn” a track like normal racing).

\n

Be cool to enable controller support for this one. Cool that you can choose different planets to go to and they each have separate environmental factors. Would also be good if you were able to change cars between planets instead of having to go back to the start.

I remember seeing this one right at the start of the gamejam, glad to see the end result! The 3D sphere must have been a painful and complicated element, but it was well worth it and really makes the game stand out.

\n

Also great work having such responsive and polished controls, the drift version of the car is certainly more challenging, but not too hard - and the most fun to drive!\nGreat submission :D

Letting the races happen on the spheres of “whole planets” is a genius idea, and because of the resulting rotation of the tracks the laps keep challenging.

\n

Nice gameplay and graphis (and music)

\n

SFX would be nice.

\n

Btw.: i had much more fun, when i skipped some panets and the random difficulty-elements were added. Those races were really cool!

“Tofu Drifter”? I think I experienced deja vu!

\n

I like the graphics and gameplay a lot. Driving the Tofu Drifter felt really good, even though I was only pressing A/D keys, and it was reasonably challenging to make sure I never hit a wall. I don’t think I succeeded.

\n

The top-down, not-rotating style is not really for me, because I get confused with directions. But I recognize it’s a personal preference so I’m not taking away any points for it.

This was a very enjoyable game to play. Very polished 3D graphics with smooth rotation of the planet, and the controls felt very responsive, and the physics of hitting the fences were not annoying. The music was simple but very effective, only missing some sound effects.

\n

The only things i can point out at this game is that the theme fit is a stretch, and the gameplay could use a bit more variety than changes in camera (although i loved how it looked in the night levels (although it doesn’t really make sense that a whole planet is in day time or night time 😅)).

\n

I think you did really well overcomplicating yourself because the fact that the map is a sphere really gives game that extra wow effect.

\n

edit: after playing some more, i got to see some extra level variations which does add a bit more to the gameplay.

Hello! Thanks for your submission to js13k! It is always impressive to see complete games under 13kb, but the 3D ones are always a show off on how far we can go :)

\n

Great work on graphics, sounds and the generated tracks. I tripped with the manner that the camera seems to slightly rotate on the view axis, making the tracks feel like they are morphing as you ride.

\n

I liked that you created a context on where the races are happening, we need to fight against the time to escape. And heck, the escape is hard. I tried three times with the easy car and didn’t even make the first turn with the tofu rider on the rainbow road :) Also, shouldn’t half of the planet be night anyway? How there was planets fully on dark?? hehe. Great work on the night levels, they look amazing with the lights.

Thanks for the review! For the record the decision to fully light the planet was one of the hardest things to do! Showing both a night and sun scene at the same time on screen and make it look good without a more sophisticated render setup is incredibly hard. So between a more realistic setup and a nicer looking one I choose the second. And for the fully dark planets the sun was changed with a tiny black hole. And for everything else, a wizard did it.

It’s impressive to see such 3D visuals in just 13k, especially the night lighting and car lights. I really love the visual presentation! It would be even better if the car had manual control for drifting.

2 times reached the last race and 2 times fell :).

\n

From the beginning, I thought that it would be good to be able to continue the game from the last completed race, but then I read the description of the game and realized that instead there is a mechanic of jumping between races due to certain inconveniences, which is quite interesting and innovative! No less innovative - racing on a spinning planet, does that mean you think the planets are round? :D

\n

I also liked the graphics, especially the night races and how you drive under the lights, you shine your headlights - quite fun!

\n

I drove in an ordinary car, for drifting as you said - you have to try ;).

\n

Of what I would like to have in addition is the ability to turn on/off the music, although the music is fun, it gets too noisy if you listen to it for too long with the headphones. It would also be nice to have a description of the controls in the game.

\n

I love racing :). It was fun, congratulations!
