In “Data Warrior: 13kb limit”, you take on the role of a cyborg fighting off hostile data blobs in a digital battlefield. As you collect data, unlock powerful JS modules to enhance your abilities, but with a memory limit of just 13kb, every byte counts.\nYour mission? Reach the 5th level of the protocol and defeat the Data Blob Big Boss.
\nNice, another one of these this year.. very cool. I like the ram expansions so you have to add more ram to accommodate for more powerups. I also like how there are multiple levels so you can choose when to increase the difficulty.

\nA very nice VS-clone with a simple inventory management system fitting this game jam. I like it that the it’s easy to tell that the enemies at every level are more menacing and difficult to defeat, despite the simple graphics.
\nThe gameplay itself seemed a bit slow. On multiple occasions I managed to position my characters against a wall and just leave him there for a minute or two, and he’d kill everything in sight with no issue. I think I’d try to increase the number of enemies on the screen and make everything faster — a true bullet mayhem, so that there’s no time to take a breather.

As my friend said during play-test “it’s the first IDLE VS clone, you invented new genre”. So yeah, it’s pretty easy to find the spot to grind XP (data). In the game defense (I haven’t found the way to fix this problem fast before submission) - longer you play, harder it takes on lower levels, so you can grind for a while, but it will harder to kill the boss in the end.

I ended with 782 data on level 4 (I think). I went with the forcefield powerups, assuming they were like Vampire Survivors Garlic. It seems like the right strategy would be to stay on level 1 longer to powerup before progressing? Nice graphics, nice sound effects, good level design. This is a pretty polished experience. Well done!

\nThe right strategy (it’s counterintuitive) for this current version is to run to the boss as fast as you can, ignoring all enemies and collect as much free Data as possible. Grinding on the first level also can work too, but it’s boring and the boss fight will be harder.

\nI quite liked the visual effects of the different weapons. I wasn’t sure about the auto-firing at first, but it’s actually well implemented.
\nI feel the power ups happen too often. I got several before I reached the exit, and I didn’t feel much danger.
\nThe level up UI was a bit confusing because i was using the mouse, but clicking didn’t work - only space to confirm.
\nLater pop-ups had some UI issues with overlapping elements.

The collectibles could be different colors than the mobs (or different shape). At first I thought I must destroy everything and the level will end, but after a while I realized there is a level exit. Good that I had grinded quite a lot already. The levels could have more impactful static collectibles to encourage exploring the edges. Also there could be rooms full of bonus, but with ambush spawn on the exit of the room for more intrigue. I’m not sure if healing is only done on level up, but if so then perhaps a heal potion somewhere on the level will be cool to have. Reached 7104/8000 but the level I ended up started to lag very quickly..

I did appreciate the little icon that tells you where the level exit is so I didn’t have to wander aimlessly. I also liked that there was variety to the monsters, both in size and ground and air units, and that they all had unique graphics.
\nI didn’t know how to attack at first. I was trying to shoot the enemies but that wasn’t working. Took me a bit to realize I had a melee weapon. There was also one point in the game where the enemies all got stuck behind walls and I was able to just sit back with my mortars and kill them all for lots of safe xp.

\nI liked the 13kb limitation; I was trying to max my force field, so at one level-up, when force field was not an option, I chose nothing and felt like a genius
\nAlso, I managed to find the exits really fast; but I guess there’s some strategy about whether or not you should leave immediately or wait and gain more power-ups.
\nOne thing I might adjust: it wasn’t clear when you were being attacked/losing HP. Maybe adding some visual or audio cue would be good
\nBut yeah, nice work!!

\nThe weapons combinations are cool and the experience is very positive, makes me want to play more!
\nAs others mentioned, I found it a little easier. Maybe spawning one or another higher tier monster earlier, or stopping spawning at some point so I’m forced to dig into lower levels.
\nBut if the game would be too difficult, we would be complaining about that too :D
\nNice work! Congrats!

I can see a lot of the comments cover all the positives and there are many, including the cute enemies.
\nI think the map could have been smaller or more details added, a vast grey grid is not the most interesting. I like seeing pixel art games a little more zoomed in and maybe a touch more juice, screen shake etc, you have some nice particle FX but could have added more in.
\nOver all its a decent auto shooter!

\nThe diversity of weapons is cool, and I like how ridiculous you look after you have 4 weapons.
\nI liked the difficulty of this game, though I wish enemies wouldn’t spawn all at once at the beginning of levels!
\nI noticed that I can’t pause the game, but I can sit around auto-killing everything if I’m high level enough! This showed me why games like Risk of Rain will increase difficulty as time goes on, even if you do nothing.
\nI wish I could direct the fire in some way, because sometimes I want to clear a path forward, instead of defending myself.

This is basically Vampire Survivors done in 13kb and with the superb concept of collecting bits of data from the fallen foe, in order to buy extra modules to fill your massive 13kb of memory!
\nThose modules can be improvements, like extra hit points or speed, but let’s face it, you’re more likely to splurge it all on grenades or a katana :) You roam around the map, laying waste to all the bits chasing you, avoiding contact with them and powering-up as much as you can along the way. You’ll also see an Exit on each level. There are 5 levels in total and just when you start thinking “oh this is easy! bring it on!” and you decide to jump down the exit portal, the next level will surely bring you to your senses, with new baddies that are even harder to kill.
\nIt’s just compelling, addictive, excellent fun. I totally lost myself in this. I powered my data all the way up to ‘Infinity’ and had an absolute blast doing so. Superb.

The character and enemy sprites are simple yet effective, providing clear visual feedback for the player. The grid-based level design is easy to follow and keeps the focus on gameplay, while the color contrast between the background and the grid makes it visually clear and easy to navigate.\nThe game could benefit from adding a bit more visual variety in the levels themselves. While the grid-based design works well, adding small environmental details or textures to break up the monotony would enhance the sense of progression and make each level feel more unique.\nWith a few additional details and animations, the game could feel even more engaging. Great job on creating a functional and visually clear experience that suits the gameplay!
