You’re finally fed up with your fleet and their incompetence. Take down all 13 of them one by one and claim your spot at the top. Along the way, you’ll discover precious cargo dice that represent your ship’s vitality and firepower. You may also encounter friendly merchants, carpenters, and potential crew members eager to join and assist you on your journey.

\n

The game is played entirely with a mouse (or touch). You can mute the game by pressing M.

\n

Your ship’s cargo consists of dice, and their total pip values represent your ship’s total HP. These dice also influence the number of damage dice you roll in combat. Be careful not to let your cargo’s total value reach the dreaded number, as even rolling that in combat can have unfavorable consequences.

What a great and fun entry. I love the animations, the style and the gameplay. It gradually becomes more and more difficult, and we get some random rolls to get lucky (or not.)

\n

I don’t know the difference between the orange die and the regular die. Maybe there are no differences. I was also wondering what the “14” on the boat meant. I thought it was my HP at first, but I think it only means I’m the number 14 boat. Maybe my HP could have been the indication instead? Just a thought.

\n

Overall a good entry, the first I’m voting on, and it’s a great start, what a gem. Will play more later.

The orange dice are spice and can be traded with merchants. I kinda wanted to keep it somewhat vague as players would most likely figure it out when they encounter a merchant. But I guess it wasn’t a great decision as quite a few people have been confused about them.

\n

The number on the boat is indeed just the number of it. And the dice you have are actually your HP.

Really, really fun and clean. The music, the SFX and the graphics really meld together in a nice way. The gameplay itself is fast and fun, and I played for a good while. This was really enjoyable, I’ve played it a couple of times now as it took me a couple of goes to understand the strategy of preserving the amount of dice you have on your boat and also when to have a big enemy hit be “tanked” into one of your dice with a low number.

\n

The theme was subtly in the game play as well; I think when I scored 13 hits on an enemy boat it always failed.

I really liked how the dice worked in the game, both the number and pips. Trying to decide which die to take the hit so you could keep as many dice as possible was fun. I also liked how 13 played into it by making the dice unlucky and losing a turn. Also not having the damage pass through to other dice was a nice touch. That ensures you get at least a certain number of rounds before defeating the enemy (rather than doing so much damage you kill multiple dice in one go).

\n

I don’t understand what the orange dice do though. I also never figured out how to accept dice from the trader for spice (it only let me move on without doing anything). The shipwright might be too powerful as I figured out you could reroll every round and get 2 free repairs. With enough dice this would still do enough damage to 1 shot any of the opponents dice. Combine this with steel dice that only take 1 hit a round, and it’s a really powerful combo.

The orange dice are the spice you trade with. You just click one in your side and get dice based on the value of it. And you’re thinking of quartermaster, not shipwright. Now that I think about it, this version doesn’t even have shipwright. I also released and “enhanced edition” on my itch which I spent 3 of the 4 jam weeks working on after hitting the size limit. To top off that combo, having navigator be there to give you extra rerolls makes it even more busted.

Not sure if it wasn’t clear but damage dice always just roll 0-2. Allowing you to change your mind is a bit tricky one. Can’t read the mind of the player so then it would need to be an extra confirmation which might be annoying for the 90% of times when you do not want to do it. This game was really fun! The music was perfect, and the art style was so fricking adorable. The game is like a mini Risk on the seas.\nIt was perhaps a bit too random and luck based. I felt like there was not much I could have done to prevent my ship from sinking. I don’t like when my life depends on getting a lucky break.

\n

It wasn’t clear what the orange cubes were for, until I read the other comments. It would have been better to make them more obvious. For example, the merchant ship should have all orange dice. Also, the whole time I got a single merchant ship, so I don’t see the point in hoarding orange dice.

\n

When the ship grows very big, you the dice go on a second row that isn’t visible anymore. Also the action buttons are on top of the floating dice.

Unlucky 13 is when your cargo totals up to 13 in which case you miss a turn or when your damage dice total up to 13 when you do no damage at all.

\n

The merchant can’t really have all orange dice as he needs normal dice in stock that he sells you. For example, giving 3 spice dice for a 3 pip value spice dice of your own would be a bit too good of a deal. I think this is my favorite game so far, and I’ve played dozens of them by now!

\n

The dice mechanics, from the idea of rerolling attacks, losing damage by swapping a dice face, and rerolling cargo, were really really fun.

\n

I also enjoyed the modifiers from quartermasters and the gray dice thing that makes it only take 1 damage, because these made me change my thinking. If there’s a repair-quartermaster, I want to reroll more often. If there’s a 1-damage gray dice, I want to direct damage to it, but if there’s both, maybe I want other dice to die and make the repair-quartermaster more likely to repair my armor dice.

\n

I might be wrong, but I think there would be some more interesting choices if the spice dice weren’t able to attack. Right now they’re just too beneficial to go without!

I think having spice dice not being in attack might be too harsh. But I have indeed already added some more downsides to them on the post jam version, like for example event with pirates who in trading will demand you to give up all your spice or face a fight etc. So having loads of them isn’t always that much of a good idea.
