In color cat you and all other online cats travers the colorful lands of patchwork dreams to collect colors. Use WASD and space to move. Complete the game by collecting all 5 special color blocks! Help others by collecting bright colors, then lead the way with your light!
\nThis game uses WebGPU, a cutting edge browser feature meant to be the successor to WebGL. Unfortunately WebGPU is not yet fully supported across all browsers in all OSs yet, at least be default.
\nFor Chrome, go to chrome://flags/#enable-vulkan. For Safari Advanced > Experimental Features and enable “WebGPU”. For Firefox, got to about:config and enable “dom.webgpu.enabled” and “gfx.webrender.all”.
\nApologies for the poor browser support, I was unaware that the major browsers behaved differently on Linux.

I finally managed to hop around on some colorful blocks, but nothing else happened. No enemies, no cats, just an empty world of blocks.
\nDid I miss something?

As you visit the glowing blocks you get brighter lights and the thought was that other online players with bright lights could light the way for others (sort of Journey inspired). The challenge is just to visit all the glowing lights without falling into the void. All the players are black cats but of course by choosing to make it first person I made it hard to tell that is the case when no one else is online.

Interesting idea though!\nIt would be really cool if there were some music and sound effects.
\nAs for WebGPU part - great technical achivement! Well done!
\nRegarding the Online category:
\nIn my personal view, multiplayer games represent the future of gaming. Therefore, achieving maximum accessibility - both in terms of technology and player base - should be the primary goal. The priority is to allow as many players as possible to connect and play, ensuring there’s always someone on the server.
\nThis is why relying solely on WebGPU may be limiting, as it isn’t universally supported across all systems or browsers yet.
This is just my personal opinion and didn’t affect my rating of the game.
\nThanks for the game!

That’s really cool! Curious if you have any opinions on whether it allowed you to write smaller code than WebGL?
\nI really like the dark ambience (although sometimes the viewing distance was so low that it was hard to know where to go) and the colored lights gave it a really nice mood. I think the concept is a bit on the weaker side but maybe my impression of the game isn’t quite fair as nobody else was currently playing. (Also, I can jump infinitely and just fly through the level :3)

The renderer is a raytracer implemented as a compute shader which would have been more convoluted with webgl - I think you would have to put it in a vertex shader and then have a fragment shader that just returns the color set by the vertex shader. It’s just nice to write to the canvas more or less directly.

\nI followed your guidance for Firefox but it said it still couldn’t get WebGPU context. Also follow Chrome guidance and enabled Vulkan but still didn’t work either

\nStill, it’s impressive that you’ve gone with WebGPU as a fledgling standard

Chrome in both cases.
\nBut that’s to be expected. As a great fan of the industry move from DX11-era APIs to lower-level ones like Vulkan, and from JS to WASM, I salute you for giving a try to one general cutting-edge, i.e. WebGPU, and another competition cutting-edge - our Online experiment.
\nLike others noted, the game felt slightly dark, and while I like the idea of having other players (cats) be “beacons of light” in the darkness, it just feels a little too overwhelmingly dark and especially in a brighter environment - really tough to see anything.
\nI had some minor visual glitches as well, and while they felt distracting, this isn’t intended as critique - just info, in case you intend to work further on it.
\nI hope we get to see you again in the next year with another game - by which time I hope WebGPU will have matured enough so that more people get to actually experience your work and effort, instead of getting a blank screen instead.
