Welcome to the 13th century, a time when magnificent cathedrals adorn the skyline of every major city, except yours.

\n

You’ve been appointed as the CATHEDRAL MASTER BUILDER by the bishop to build a cathedral before the century’s end.

\n

The bishop✝️ provides money💵 for your project. Visit the TOWN🏘️ to recruit skilled workers for your BAKERY🥖, SMITHY⚒️, and MASONRY🧱. Procure iron🧲 and stone🧱 from the MARKET🧺.

Finally completed in 1305, a bit late but we got it done!

\n

The Smith and Bakery were not needed after a while as I had so much resources from those, came down to hiring and firing the right Masons. Did not seem I had much to control other than getting the best workers and making sure to buy bricks and magnets.

\n

All worked well but needed some more options.

\n

The books and stats were a nice touch and can see a lot of effort went into that detail.

Thanks a lot for playing and the feedback.\nYes, agree if you are playing it casually at some point you do not need to do that much anymore and just wait. I already expected that balancing it is a difficult task and planned some more time for playtesting. However, I think you know how time flies in a game jam :).

Very complete presentation. I didnt last enough to see it completed because I didnt feel engaged to do it. Maybe drawing the cathedral with lots of emojis could had made it more fun.

A nice, complete game about timing the market. Presentation is great and not so tough so as to become frustrating. Knows what it is and executes that well. Good work. 🔥

G’day!

\n

Completed construction in 1290 :).

\n

Using emojis as graphics is a good idea and looks good, I liked it! I also liked the animation of the amount of resource extraction that appears above each building.

\n

I can say that I immediately understood the idea of the game, but I did not immediately understand all its mechanics. For example, I did not immediately understand that there will be no progress if there is no money, and only after a while I understood that the gameplay goes sequentially from left to right, passing each building, where a complete passage represents a completed round. Once I figured this out, managing the construction became much easier because you already know at what stage you need to save money and when you can purchase resources.

\n

During a long game, the sound becomes a bit boring and tiring… I had to turn it off :). In my opinion, a sound that would draw less attention to itself would be better, something simpler, calm tones. I also think that maybe some construction sounds would improve the gaming experience.

\n

Although the topic is somewhat general, the idea of the game and its implementation is good!

\n

It was simple and fun to play, thanks!

Thanks a lot for playing and the feedback. Finishing the cathedral in 1290 is very good!\nFully agree to all of your feedback, especially the music. KBs and time was running out :). I had some things planned to make it more obvious how the game runs, but again: No KBs and time left :D.

Cool, thanks a lot for playing my game and the comprehensive feedback. I really liked working on it using Kontra.\nYes, the balancing of the game might need some tweaking. In the bishops location you could only check the stats of the Bishop (how much money he provided) and nothing more. Fully agree to “saving” workers. I was also thinking of a way that you could much faster fire your workers when you see a better one, but had no time to add this feature.

Interesting time management game with simple enough rules.\nSome functions aren’t very simple and obvious, but in general game has not a bad design.\nAfter first time it became boring, not so many options.\nBut anyway, good job.

Thanks a lot for playing and the feedback. It was very difficult to balance the game and make it still exciting in the limited time I had to playtest it. So I am not so surprised that it might be boring the second time you play it. Tells me again that I should plan more time for playtesting :).

timing is issential to get a good deal, fluctuations being random just make it simply wait for a relative low value for a product and just spam buy. maybe next version make it related to how much you buy or add other markets competing with better prices 2 or 3 offers maybe.\nthe personnel cards is cool i liked it though its clear that almost always a couple no-go due to negative personalities lol. graphics use emoji smart way, layout is simple, nothing much is needed to grasp the idea and click event ease the control having just one option of controls make things very simple for players not much to do really go focus on a plan and just click here and here. good overall gameplay, would be nice to have a mute button in game but music is soft and not disturbing.

\n

you can consider adding a speed modifier to make things not go boring, but I think its more as a tycoon game, you can try to add more things to make players last more playing it again and again.

\n

good luck

Thanks a lot for playing and the comprehensive feedback. Agree, that there are still many things to tweak. I also felt that the market prices do not really come through the whole game. I like your idea to make this less random. Yes, I think there is still a lot of potential to add more stuff to make it more engaging, especially in the late game.

Hey, neat idea! The presentation was nice, good use of the emojis, but really nice thinking on all the ledgers. Felt really in theme.

\n

The flute song was nicely done, but after a while it was a little much, and the game did last quite a while. Maybe next time leave a gap in between repetitions? If you had a few UI bleeps and bloops for opening the various windows, that would have covered in between.

\n

The actual game was perhaps a little passive. I zoned out a few times and still completed somewhere around 1290. I think it works as a sort of idle game, but it still felt like it needed more pacing. Something to throw you off and delightfully surprise you every now and again? Maybe the deaths and new clergy weren’t celebrated enough to act in that capacity.

Sorry, I am a little late with my feedback, but I just realized that I forgot to answer. I think everybody who played my game and commented deserves an answer, even though it is a bit late.\nThanks a lot for playing my game and this feedback. Fully agree to your comments. The sound was put together pretty quickly and I was happy to have at least something :).\nI planned to have some more unexpected events, such as disasters where you would need to react to, but had not enough time (and space) to implement it. Fully agree that the death of the bishop should be “celebrated” a bit more and maybe have much more impact than it currently has.

Hi there,

\n

Good work on completing this in time! It was a good concept, so let me give some feedback and suggestions:

\n
    \n
  1. Controls - the clicking piece is easy; however, it felt jarring to instantly go into each screen (especially with no tutorial or gradual introduction of elements). I’d suggest adding a fade-in / fade-out, as well as a button-pressed state for each button so we can see what is being clicked
  2. \n
  3. UI - The UI needs some work on this one. First suggestion would be to use a tool like this https://uxplanet.org/best-three-color-scheme-for-music-player-5da996d7f460?gi=403ce9d9bec0#:~:text=There%20are%20some%20patterns%20what,very%20edges%20of%20
  4. \n
  5. UI - After a better color selection, the game would benefit from some sort of ‘focal’ separation. Right now, it’s not clear where I should focus my attention. Best way is to either introduce elements one at a time, or divide groupings up so they’re not all present visually at the same time
  6. \n
  7. A lot of the other commenters added good comments about gameplay mechanics, so I’d suggest taking a look at those (my feelings are similar). I think you have a strong mechanic base; just need to find different way of presenting it.
  8. \n
  9. Bonus points for documented README
  10. \n
  11. Bonus points for good code structure and file naming!
  12. \n
\n

Overall it was a good submission, and I look forward to seeing what you do with it next. Hit me up on twitter @jedihacks for any discussion!

Sorry for this late reply. I really appreciate that you took your time in providing me such a detailed feedback! Some answers to your feedback:

\n
    \n
  1. Fully agree that the controls do not feel really responsive and you do not get a feedback from it.
  2. \n
  3. Yes, colors and UI design are not my strongest points and I also do not like to work on it :). When I am under pressure I tend then to do all the other stuff which is more fun to me :). Thanks a lot for this suggestion, I think with such articles I can easily make it more appealing to my audience.
  4. \n
  5. Agree the screen is a bit messy and it is hard to find your way through it.
  6. \n
  7. Agree. I could also feel a lot of weak points in it, but just ran out of time.
  8. \n
  9. Cool thanks, happy to see that some people appreciate that :).
  10. \n
  11. Thanks. I think I did a terrible job in optimizing the code for size, but at least it is readable :).\nNot sure what will happen with it as I usually do not revisit my jam entries. However, I really like the general concept. So let’s see. Thanks!
