You are a wizard and you want to be the very best!
\nTo be so, you have to duel other wizards.
\nYou share a cauldron with another wizard.\nThis cauldron has an amount of putridity.\nAdd ingredients to the cauldron to increase or decrease its putridity.
\nFirst wizard to reach an amount of putridity of 13 or 0 has lost!
\nBrewing Disaster is a deck-building game. You start with some ingredients and, after each victory, you can add new ingredients to your deck. Sometimes you can even improve some!
\nA game of Brewing Disaster makes you face 4 wizards NPC with their own deck and passive effects. You’ll duel them twice: the first encounter will be easy, but the second one will be thougher!
\nWin 8 duels in a row with a character to unlock another one!
\nEven if it’s optimized for desktop, the game should be playable on tablets and smartphones (espcially on portrait mode).
\nBut have in mind the experience is a bit degraded on small screens!
Goal of the game is to beat 4 NPCs. Each of them has its own deck of ingredients (and passives for the second encounter).
\nWe can unlock NPC to play with their ingredients as starter deck (well, that means they aren’t NPC anymore, but I hope it’s still OK, let’s say it’s original to transform an NPC into a PC :p).
\nThis game is available on Arcadia.
\nThe first time a player looses a game, it unlocks an optional feature based on Thirdweb: being able to create and save its very own starter ingredients.\nWhen playing with a custom starter deck, we can’t unlock other characters: this is just a bonus to test things :)
\nAll sprites have been made by myself.
\nMusics and sounds have been made thanks to ZzFXM and NoteCraft.

A good variety of characters, items, effects to renew the gameplay while the game progresses. Impressive to do all that, with music, plus a web3 character editor in just 13kb. Having to try to get to 0 or 13 makes for an interesting battle (versus just trying to get to 13). I liked the variety of ingredients and how you could modify them them.
\nThe audio was very repetitive and a bit loud. I had to turn it off after a few battles. I would also have liked an option to skip picking ingredients. One of the strategic elements of a deck building game is knowing when not to add more things to your deck.

I wasn’t able to beat the first NPC, and it was frustrating to start from zero after being defeated. It would be nice to have a few attempts, 1 or 2, to at least have a chance. The sound effects are nice, but the music was not to my taste. I appreciate the “mute” button, and it would be nice with one for sfx and one for music, because the sfx felt right.\nThe graphics style is nice, and I like how you made the game Thumbnail. The game does feel like a GameBoy game.
\nThe Thirdweb integration is really well made. From what I digested in the source code, it looks like you are saving the state on IPFS? I would love to know more.
\nBattling the NPCs with my own custom deck of cards was fun, and would love to see the integration with custom characters as well, and maybe with some special passive abilities. Overall a good game.

\nMy intent was to recreate the feeling of roguelikes where you have to replay from start after losing, but that’s true it would be nice to allow one or two defeats.
\nI did plan to have two mute buttons (one for music and one for sounds effects) but… I’ve just forgotten to implement that, and you make me remember that only now… ! Oopsy x’)
\nThirdweb integration allows me to save custom decks, and only that (not the whole state of the game). In short:
\nUsing my own server to create a link between public key and IPFS file was necessary ‘cause I wasn’t able to search for files via Thirdweb ^^’

The design of the cauldron and the various ingredients adds personality to the gameplay, and the simplicity of the visuals helps the player focus on the core mechanics. The overall aesthetic fits with the theme of brewing potions and wizardry.\nWhile the minimalism works well here, adding more animation when ingredients are mixed into the cauldron could enhance the gameplay experience. For example, small bubbles or visual reactions based on the ingredients would provide satisfying feedback for the player and make the game feel more alive.\nThe visual consistency is excellent, and the retro-inspired design works very well in this setting. You’ve created a cohesive world that complements the mechanics beautifully. The pixel art feels polished, and the game is visually engaging. Fantastic work!
