You are special operator, codename Black-Cat. You have been assigned by high command to proceed with all possible haste (stopping only to fiddle with catnip-mice and balls of wool) to the Pyrasian system, where the native Pyra’s claim they are being harrassed by the forces of some bad guy that we can’t even remember the name of. Liberate the Pyra’s special operator Black-Cat, and destroy your enemies, although they may just be innocent space explorers. We don’t know for sure but let’s err on the side of caution and crush them with paws of steel.
\nMove the mouse to look around and aim.
\nForward thrust using the W key.
Reverse thrust forward using the S key.
Strafe left using the A key.
Strafe right using the D key.
Land and dust-off using the E key.
Press Left mouse button to shoot.
Press Right mouse button to bomb.
All keyboard controls can be reconfigured in the options menu and will be persisted between games.
\nThe main goals of the game are to fly about procedurally generated landscapes, rescuing Pyra, destroying enemy units, and collecting cargo.
\nYou can just checkout the ingame tutorial if you’ve already grown tired of reading this giant wall of text.
\nBLACK CAT - NINE LIVES, NO MERCY is an ambitious feature-rich 3rd-person, 3D vector-graphics shoot-em-up (shmup).
\nThe player pilots a futuristic combat craft across procedurally generated alien landscapes. The visual aesthetic is built on wireframe models rendered in WebGL for a retro-futuristic feel.
\nThere was a lot more to add here but I did not realize that it is limited to only 2Kb of text :(

The controls are intuitive once learned, and I progressed easily to Level 2. To significantly increase the fun factor and visual clarity, I’d suggest giving the lines more definition with a thicker weight or a glow effect. Furthermore, to heighten the ’shoot ‘em up’ intensity, consider limiting the movement area (possibly in 1 direction) and zooming in on the action. This would create more precise controls and a more cohesive, engaging feel, as the current experience can seem a bit disjointed.

Unfortunately most browsers just ignore GL.ThickLines so it’s really hard to drawn thick lines without making them all rectangles, it’s kind of dumb. I really would have preferred thick lines for a lot of things in the game.

Unfortunately I found the controls far to frustrating to continue playing for very long. It felt as though my mouse cursor was completely hijacked, removed, and replaced by something that only spun you around as you moved it horizontally?
\nInstead, just show the cursor, or your own aim cursor, and have the ship always point at it. That really is all you needed here. Something else is happening instead, and it makes it quite disorienting and frustrating.
\nVery cool tech though, just needs some control tweaking and it would be a great game!

\nI agree with other commenters that the controls felt a little strange. Are you not able to shoot behind you? I couldn’t figure out how to turn around, so I was flying behind enemies to shoot them instead

\nI need to have a good think about those and maybe post competition, try implementing some different ways to control the ship.

I had a little bit of difficulty liberating Pyra’s: when pressing E, the ship wouldn’t stick to the ground, I had to try several times in different positions around the cat to find one that would work. The game is awesome though! Great work

\nGreat entry, I loved how you resolved the 3D by creating a huge vertex buffer for the whole world.

I can’t believe how great the 3d wireframe graphics are. They look so good. The spherical planet mesh on the main menu is cool. I love it. The movement, gamefeel, style and visuals are purrrrfect. I found it hard to turn, however, and at times it felt backwards or mirrored, but I think my main problem was that I had to scroll the mouse right off the side of my desk (picking it up and putting it back so I could scroll farther) just to do a 180 degree turn. It was around two feet of movement required lol. This isn’t really your fault, it is due to my low mouse sensitivity settings. When I told my OS to turn it up, the game played fantastically!! For this reason, I warmly recommend adding a turn speed slider to the settings screen if you do a post launch v1.1 polish edition! All in all, amazing work.

Using the mouse to turn around was difficult, and it took some time to get used to. I think it would work better with a game pad using thumb sticks. Would want to play again if it’s supported.

\nThe graphics and style are awsome! So may impressive visuals, the menu screen has a lot of detail and the level design is so clever.
\nLove that you have the training to help you get started.
\nWas so excited to play this as it has everything I would want in a entry but I just couldnt enjoy the controls, for me these games are fun when you can whizz about taking out enemies. Shooting things that are close up means moving about quite a bit as the mouse cursor is locked, like having a 20m long rifle.
\nI think if you change the controls you will unlock some awesome gameplay!
\nIf you change the controls please post in the Slack chat so I can come back and play!

\nI think my biggest suggestion would be on the controls. Having WASD be “relative” (and not absolute position) is potentially OK, and having mouse left/right be rotation (and not absolute position) is potentially OK, but having both together is too much. I’d suggest having the mouse movement control an on-screen absolutely positioned crosshair, make WASD relative to that crosshair, and paint the bombing target on the ground separately from the crosshair (that way you still have that extra gameplay element of positioning yourself the right distance from bombing targets).
