13 days ago, a fleet of aliens - the Trisdaideka - started an invasion of earth. As everyone else on the planet is paralyzed by the resulting Triskaidekaphobia, it’s up to you and your experimental rocket to defend the planet!
\nThis game is controlled by keyboard or gamepad, not the mouse!\n(details, see below)

\nYou want to start into the full action? You can “pause” the storymode (using the button at the bottom) and jump to a endless level, including a displayed score.\nYou can return to the story (where you left it) anytime
\na standard gamepad is supported, the left analog stick has a different gameplay-feeling than the arrow-buttons. The arrow-buttons have the same feeling as the keyboard.

I did think a lot about it, but as the whole game is controlled by keyboard (or gamepad), I didnt want to accept a mouseclick in the menus, so a player is not forced to switch controls, and has the hands already on the right device, when the action starts.\nMaybe that restriction is too strict ;-)

I love the “freeze frame - yep, this is me, 13 days into an alien invasion” intro, and then the gradual buildup through the levels. I did find a way to really cheese it, but won’t spoil for others. I loved playing this! The alien attackers are very varied visually, though there’s not that much difference in the way they attack. The difficulty buildup through the levels is leisurely, so you really get the hang of it by level 6 or 7. The connection with the theme is there, if a bit tenuous. But generally this is just a great game and I can totally see it expanded into an epic journey of alien types and upgrades. If I would have one minor thing to criticize, is that it would be good to check that new enemies don’t randomly spawn directly where the player is.
\nCongrats Christoph!

\nNew aliens should spawn about 1,5 screenwidths left or right from the place of the destruction of the last one, but i obviously did not take into account, that the players lasers reach much farther than that…
\nThe spawning itself is just a simple counter that defines (per level) how many aliens are to be respawned. So the gameplay is a bit extended, and not all enemies from one level are present at the same time.
\nI also had envisioned much more (and even larger) enemy-types, like ground based units (walkers in some sort), carriers, composed enemies ( you have to destroy their shield-generators first) and stuff like that.
\nMaybe I’ll extend the game in the future (said that also about the witch-racing from last year, the extended game is still in the project-phase… haha…)

\nYeah, the little ships in the first real levels are pretty hard to hit with the single-shot lasers. but they train you for the events to come ;-)

\nAlso, at first I thought that some levels are above water and some are underwater. Figured out it was not the case, but would be an interesting twist, imho.

On my (not completed) feature list were walking enemies for the sea-level.\nDiving below sea-level indeed would open up an ocean of gameplay possibilities!

\nAlso I like the idea to show a challenging level initially with the upgrades, reminds me souls games approach when you face a boss with level 1 character :D
\nGood job and congratulations on the submission!

\nThe first sneak-peek of the fully upgraded ship was mainly because of the limited time many people have to test and vote for the game. When they only would have played the first normal level (single shot, small enemies), they would have received a complete wrong experience ;-)
\nBut I also liked this “flashback” as story-telling trick.

But really nice math and physics! Very like your very technical entries!\nThe game feels pretty smooth and I imagine it was not easy to implement those rotation, gravity, friction, etc.\nI would have really liked that the rotation was less sensitive, aka more resolution in the rotation; it felt a bit frustrating to not be able to hit the targets.\nCongrats on your entry!

\nGood point regarding the rotation!\nI tried many different rotationspeeds and settled on “180 degrees per second”. see player.js on github As i am using a 144 Hz display this results in degree-steps of 1,25 per update frame. On a 60 Hz display it would be 3 degrees per frame. pretty much…
\nI did not think about that… hm. Maybe a little ramp-up in rotationspeed would fix that.
\nI’ll try it in the directors cut, and keep that in mind for the next years. THANK YOU!
