13-S is a pixelart action platformer.
\n7 levels (wanted 13, but here we are). 13 seconds each. Some are easy, some are hard, all are fast! Can you do it?
\nThis game is designed for desktop. User WASD or arrow keys to move.
\nGood luck and have fun.
\nAbove all, thanks for playing my game.

The author did a great job of catching the essence of old-school, hardcore platformers. Interesting and fluid graphics and music are a huge plus for a game of this size.

It’s punishingly difficult. It took me quite a few tries to get past level 2. I made it to level 5. This would be a fun game to come back to. I like the black/white graphics style. The music was pretty good too, captured the sense of urgency. Congrats on submitting, nice job

\nMajor Problem: The level doesn’t reset itself. I died in level 2 with the\nspikes falling and it reset me to the start. I got back to level 2 and the spikes were where they left of, they hadn’t reset to the top of the level, so I did instantly and was 100% soft locked and couldn’t continue without refreshing.
\nMinor feedback: A game like this should really have controller support. If you’re doing precision platforming, include controller support. Your zip is 10.92kb, you have way way more than enough room to add this and it would make playing the game so much better.
\nIf you make these two changes and post a “directors cut” version (there’s a link provided for this now), I’d love to play it some more! I think you’ve got some great style and great ideas, just needs tweaked a little!

\nFor a precision platformer, I couldn’t perform controlled jump heights. For example, a long key press and a short one should result in different jump heights. Perhaps this was by design, but it something I would change personally.
\nI made the same mistake myself, but I would target the casual audience given that a variety of people trying your game simply to experience its entirety, not be punished relentlessly in order to see more of your game. I would make a easy mode and then when they’re done with that, make it harder for those who want to play more with a challenge. Otherwise, keep it easy, but that’s just my opinion; I’m also sure there’s a good way of presenting very hard games such that it would be judged favorably.
\nI think the (AI generated?) cover photo clashes with your art style. I’d rather have seen the cover photo with just your game.

\nThe AI generated can-robot was intended evoke the game but not really represent it. Try searching for “Atari Games Cover art” and you’ll quickly notice the graphics of the game have nothing to do with their covers. This trend kind of applied to all gaming platforms until the modern engines took over (source: me). And even today that’s a thing.
\nThat said, it clearly failed its purpose. I’d blame time, but ultimately it falls on me not thinking thoroughly. This deserves a place in the post-mortem for sure.

Each death means going back to the start, I imagine some people like that but I prefer a a few tries, the second level just killed me almost right away and then that was it, game over.

It was too hard for me to progress but I wanted to see more; I wish there were checkpoints or rewind or a cheat mode (or a menu at the start where you could choose any level to retry) only because I have slower reflexes than the average gamer and tend to need a little help with brutal platformers. Very nice work!!! it plays great and a skilled platformer speedrunning master would probably say the difficulty is just right for them!

\nI think some people will absolutely love it, and others less :)\nMaybe you should think of adding an “easy” mode, where you can respawn on the level you just died.\nAlso, imho, the death animation is slightly too long, not making me want to try again right away!
\nReally really cool music, it adds so much to the game. + the sound effects.

I never thought about how much impact that dying animation would have. \nThe music theme first perfectly with the game. Unfortunately, I got stuck by a bug on the second level after a few games, a second spiky bar appears from the beginning at mid-height and you cannot avoid it. The only solution is to reload the game.

\nThe “start from the very beginning” may be better reserved for a hardcore-mode. I mean its good, as it intensifies the fear of the 13 seconds, but maybe not for all players? A “restart the current level” would be nice ;-)
\nGood game!

\nThis is one of the games I liked the look of whilst the games were still being submitted before the voting started so have had a few goes on it.
\nMy first few tries it was quite tricky to navigate against the pressure of the oncoming dangers.
\nThe music was cool, and the sound effects work well.
\nBut I certainly didn’t get as far as the levels with the ropes like I saw on the preview video. I’m just a bit rubbish at auto-scroller type levels.
\nHowever the game is well made and fun to play

Love the chunky black and white feel. The gameplay is also solid, with the jump having a nice weight to it. That’s not as easy to do as it seems.
\nI do think this is tweaked too hard, it’s too punishing to always be returned to the first level, and I found I was craving a run/rush ability.
\nOverall very playable, clear on what to do, and nicely crafted little game. Good work!
