In this game you will be trying to escape a house in under 13 minutes or less. You will need to learn about everyone’s powers as you go through the rooms to grab room balls to open the final door.

\n

– How to Play –\nThe touch screen is all you need. Preferably play on a tablet or smartphone. Tap on the character icons to change personas on the block you control. Keep in mind that it’s important for you to try different personals because certain characters can see things that others can’t see. Also, there is 1 very well hidden room in the game… If you can find it, you’re so cool!

\n

– Note to Players –\nThis is only a submission for the mobile games. Even if you have a touch screen on your desktop computer, there may be a chance that something don’t function properly or the touch screen controls get stuck. If it happens, you can press the r button on your keyboard to reset the problem without losing game progress.

Nice, this was fun. I found the “You win” room with 2:30 remaining. I only found 156/169 coins though, so I must have missed the secret room. This was a satisfying experience, great job!

I appreciate you playing my entry! Yes, I think the hidden room is a little TOO hidden and I’ll add a hint in a future update (not sure if you’ll need it unless you’re a completionist, but your hint is Riko’s path. One last clue is 13 never wins). This is my first rodeo and I failed to understand how web audio api worked (now studying for the future game jams).

Seeing the progress of the balls you collect is nice. It took a while to understand the personas and how they differ, but I understood it after reading the description. I wasn’t able to escape before the time ran out unfortunately.

I appreciate the feedback and you playing it fully! In all honesty, I should have put important info about the personas in game. (Adding that to my list of things to update).

\n

The game ended up a little too blocky because my partner quit on me and pulled important assets out during the last 3 days before the deadline so the rooms got a bit too roomy for a 13 minute run to 1st timers. I’ll also work on that in a future update with better textures etc.

Nice work!!!! I did NOT find the secret room but I know it’s there… right in front of me… somewhere….. =)

\n

it took me a while to figure out how to move lol (I was tapping where I wanted to move like a silly mouse-user, even on my phone at first), I felt so silly when I noticed the grey gamepad area, I guess if those were grey arrows I would have noticed the obvious sooner. Once I could move, it took embarrassingly long until I realized you could move south/down!!!! hahaha so I tried in vain for a while in the first room laughing at how foolish I was, assuming north or nothing, floundering with the concept of multiple realities, but then it all clicked and I finally got it.

\n

Overall, once I finally knew how to play, playing was fun! So all it needs is a little tutorial for the tired and lazy, that little bit of hand-holding to nudge us on our adventure! great work and thank you for joining js13k.

I really appreciate the detailed feedback and the effort you put into playing the game! I need to keep in mind to make sure an optional tutorial is there for future players, as well as make it clear that the controller is actually a controller. Also I need to fill those rooms up with hints in the future.

Good job!

\n

I agree it took me a while to understand how to move around :) I was lazily expecting to move around with my keyboard arrows.\nSo maybe not the most adapted for desktop play.

\n

Overall it looks quite a simple gathering game, but it has the nice touch of needing to handle multiple characters to solve everything.

\n

Having a little 8-bit music playing in the background would be a great addition too!

I do apologize, but I never had this game in the Desktop category (though I probably should had put in full desktop support too, since some others thought the same).

\n

I appreciate your feedback and you taking time out of your day to play the game! It really makes me happy to see the constructive feedback and I couldn’t agree more with your advice. I’ll admit that I had a skill issue when it comes to using web audio API to generate soumd but I’m working through a book to fix that problem soon. I look forward to reworking this game post gamejam with all the suggestions and putting a link to an update

Finished the game on my second try, with about a minute and a half time left! I too didn’t realize at first how to move the character, but once I got that, it felt so obvious! Yes, this one is on the mobile category, but in your future games I think that with relatively little effort you could add arrow keys and with that make desktop players happy :)

\n

Moving between rooms works well and creates a sense of adventure, as you don’t know what’s behind each door. I especially like the use of colors and how different rooms have a different style. Using different characters wasn’t clear at first, but eventually I figured out to match characters with the colors of the room. It’s an interesting idea that could be expanded further.

\n

Also, the start screen looks really cool!

\n

As it is now, the rooms were rather big relative to what they contain, but you’ve probably got lots of ideas on how to expand the game further. So definitely keep going with games like this!

I really appreciate you playing the game even multiple times just to beat it. As the developer of this game, that makes me so happy!

\n

I agree that I should had considered cross platform support from the beginning, and added options for keyboards and controllers.

\n

I really am thankful that you understood what I was going for in this game. I really love the idea of having colorful puzzles, and I started this project as a team of 2, but when I lost my teammate, I ended up having to focus on making sure everything works, and as a result the finer details of the game, such as graphics, suffered. Though I’m very happy that I was able to submit a full working game.

\n

The rooms are indeed a little roomy for this current version and in my opinion, I could had resized it, but at the same time, I want to make sure that each room is built with a meaning in future updates. I plan to add the right characters, assets etc in the game that should had been then in the first place while working in a tutorial.

A fun game, lots to explore.

\n

The idea of the game was good.

\n

When I played on iOS holding down the virtual pad to move kept bring up menus or prompts to translate. Perhaps consider prevent default.

\n

I didn’t find the hidden room, will have to play again.

Thank you very much for playing the game!

\n

Ah, that’s the blindspot that I missed with the prevent default. I really appreciate you letting me know this, since I currently have no access to iPhone devices. Well this also solves the desktop touch screen related problems too (I think).

\n

I appreciate your and everyone’s attempt to find the hidden room. I assume you wouldn’t want to be spoiled but keep in mind this hint… Every persona has equal access to the hidden room.

a game playable on phone but not utilizing keyboard is a tough question to answer why

Good question. The best answer I can give is because I was confused about the categories of the contest. I believed that if I build a game for the mobile category, then it would be assumed that it wouldn’t have direct support for physical keyboards and controllers for desktop. (I now know that a lot of people end up playing this on PC anyway and encouraged desktop support). I’m working those things in for future patches.

Before I provide feedback, I need to acknowledge 2 biases:

\n\n

That said, this game has a lot of things implemented correctly. The controls are probably fine when playing on mobile, the physics (collection of items, collision with walls, etc) and gameplay in general were OK (having to switch between characters to see different things is a good idea).\nThe graphics are unimpressive, and the lack of audio doesn’t help improve the atmosphere.\nA mini-map (at least of the places I visited) would have dramatically make the experience better. Also, I didn’t explore the entirety of the game, but I felt there wasn’t much to do apart from collecting stuff.\nOverall, I think there is a good game engine here, but it needs more to become a great game.

\n"},{"typ":1,"at":380487257,"re":380483362,"author":"kennyfully1988","login":"kennyfully1988","gh":181469182,"text":"

Thank you for your feedback and the reasoning behind the feedback. This is tough feedback so I’ll carefully reply.

\n

Keep in mind that I didn’t really build this game with desktop in mind (though I should had done so)

\n

Even though you praised the controls on mobile, I’m going to assume that you probably didn’t test the controls on mobile.

\n

I’m happy to see that the physics and core game mechanics were okay.

\n

I agree that the graphics and absence of music isn’t ideal at all. Reasoning behind the graphics lacking is due to a pull-rug on game assets by a former partner. I didn’t have the right skills to make music via Web Audio API at the time.

\n

I too thought about how useful a min-map would had been (post submission). I’m adding that to the game.

\n

Do to the previous excuse I made about assets being pulled out of the project by a previous partner, I had to focus too much on making a playable version of the game.

\n

Thanks once again for the constructive feedback. All helpful and most will be applied for my update.
