In 13 the Damned, a card game inspired by triskaidekaphobia—the fear of the number 13—every decision is a gamble with fate. Flip cards, accumulate points, and push your luck. But beware, revealing a King (worth 13) spells doom, ending the game in an instant. Will you risk it all or walk away before it’s too late? With three levels of difficulty and a rising score multiplier for every card revealed, every choice could lead you to victory or disaster.

\n

How to Play

\n
    \n
  1. 12 cards are randomly picked from a standard 54-card deck and placed face-down on the board.
  2. \n
  3. Reveal cards one by one, each with a value from 1 to 13 (King = 13).
  4. \n
  5. Accumulate the values of the revealed cards, but don’t let the total exceed 13 points, or you’ll lose those cards.
  6. \n
  7. For each card you reveal without clicking Keep Cards, your score multiplier increases by 1, boosting your potential score.
  8. \n
  9. You can lock in your score at any time by pressing Keep Cards, or end the game early with End Game to save your total.
  10. \n
  11. Be cautious! Revealing a King will instantly end the game, marking you as damned.
  12. \n

Interesting luck game. There’s not a lot of skill involved, since the ideal strategy seems to just always pick 1 card and keep it. The risk of loosing all cards seems to be too high to be worth it to pick more than one card.

Thank you for your feedback. I’m thinking to a way to adapt cards selection by their value according to the difficulty selected. I think also to integrate the possibilité to pick a jocker that could be use to skip a king.

Nice overall implementation, all worked to the rules you explained. I did sturggle to get 2 cards without going bust, seemed the best strategy was to keep on keeping!

Interesting idea, though mostly luck based. For the most part I just would pick 2 cards and then keep since they were almost always going to total to around 10 (the average of adding 2 numbers from 1-13 is about 14). I would keep most cards and only would lose about 1 or 2 pairs.

\n

Selecting a difficulty didn’t appear to work at first clicking on a setting doesn’t look like it updates anything nor does it close the menu (you have to press [r] for that). Once I started a new game did I realize it worked.

I’m not satisfy by the difficulty menu. I will do something to make the difficulty selection clearer.

I think I found bug that you can click twice or more time on the same card. But I haven’t used it to have a pure experience.

\n

It’s pretty simple game and remind me BlackJack. But with 13 instead of 21+. Took me 10 sec to understand the rules. As a game of luck it simple but works.

\n

I like that in the end you can put your name and see a local hall of fame. Nice little touch.

Simple gambling game, but no real objective except high score. You should add some score to reach after a certain amount of game, with cards picked in the same set, so we should remember what was already picked to try playing with probability instead of just randomness :)

It’s kind of like playing a repeating game of blackjack, except you are trying to avoid going bust at 13 points instead. Click a card then decide if you want to risk clicking another. If not, click “Keep Cards” and the counter resets so you can try again - the aim being to clear all 12 cards from the grid. Obviously, you could just click “Keep Cards” after every single card, but you’ll end up with a rubbish score if you do. I feel given how simple the game is, it could have explained how to play all by itself - as it stands, you really need to read the instructions before even starting it or you won’t have a clue what’s going on! Aside from this, it’s a nice twist on the concept and definitely on-theme.

The game worked well.

\n

The layout was good, and the game was easy to pick up.

\n

Pretty much a game of completed chance. I played a few times and didn’t see a king card. Were the difficulty levels just picking slightly more cards from a particular range? e.g. easy was mostly low value cards?

\n

Perhaps decorate the cards like traditional playing cards, or have an animation when cards are revealed?

So basically blackjack, played as a solitaire, but with 13 being the limit instead of 21 ?\nI wished the cards were a bit more realistic – number in the corner with as many symbols on the card, and simple gfx for the figures. You probably can pack this much tighter than 13 kb, freeing room for more details. For instance, graying out the cards from the former turns so those from the current one stand out.

Interesting idea. I got a score of 1313 (in keeping with the theme :D) after discovering that you can reuse cards that are already revealed, allowing to you get a perfect 144 every time.

Good concept. I could see this being a reasonable game to play with a real deck. Might just be me, but I wish the numbers were actually numbers instead of text, it would be easier for me to do math on them. I don’t think the difficulty screen worked? At least, I couldn’t select difficulty, I had to restart every time. Unfortunately I was able to bug the game by clicking on cards I had already played, but I could play the game without doing that.
