Variations of the fox and geese game have been popular in Europe since at least the 13th century.
\nThis variation travels along 13th century trade routes between the major cities of Medieval Europe.
\nIt may not be in the spirit of the JS13k competition, but since JavaScript was not around in the 13th century this game is completely JavaScript free (aside from being generated by Node).
\nGood luck and I hope you enjoy the game!
\nThe fox and geese alternate turns moving along the paths. You play as the geese and will move first after clicking Start.
\nAny one goose can move 1 space in any direction to an unoccupied city as long as there is a path between the cities.\nThe fox can also move to any unoccupied, connected city or it can jump over one goose to remove that goose from the game.
\nA jump must remain on 1 path so it must end on an unoccupied city on the same color path as it started.
\nTo move, click a goose and then click the city to move it to.\nOnce you have clicked on a goose you must move it or leave it where it is!\nYou only have 60 seconds each turn to make your decision.\nAfter taking your turn, make the fox’s move by clicking the box in the upper left two times (for a regular move) or three times (for a jump).
\nIf you like JS13k games because they lightweight, then this game is probably not for you as it ends up inflating to more than a MB of CSS.
\nThis game might work on some mobile devices, but it is likely unplayably slow and/or too small. Safari is probably slow but playable if you have enough CPU. Firefox might have text-shadow issues but seems to be much faster. Chrome on a newish laptop/desktop is recommended for a (hopefully) flawless experience.

The theme is well interpreted, and it looks like a game with a lot of effort put into it.
\nThe geese never showed up. I guess the black squares I saw were supposed to be the geese emojis, so I had that in mind when I tried playing the game. I was able to move a goose, but I was never able to trap the fox.
\nIf the fox is the enemy, I think it would be better if an AI automatically moved the fox, instead of letting the player click the button to move it.

It took me a few goes, the key to victory was the rule that the fox can only jump and land on the same colored path. Would be great if there was some thinking music playing too. Overall a fun game I think, thanks.

Also I didn’t like I had to click so many times to make the computer move the fox. If I understand it correctly, that’s due to the fact you didn’t use any JS on purpose, which is really cool. Otherwise a nice game.

I felt the controls were a bit clumsy, perhaps the fox could move/jump/kill without any interaction from the player? Nice graphics too. Good job!

The page seems to be loading for a long time, loading a lot of XML files, but it never stops. The instructions say to click on a goose, but I only see a map with roads.
\nEdit: ok, it seems to work on Chrome, but doesn’t work on Firefox at all. The game was interesting, but I lost. I’m veeeery curious to learn how you implemented this. I vaguely remember doing some XSL wizarding in college but my brain promptly erased that from my memory. I’ll give you 5 stars in innovation just for that!

\nI like that the instructions or “how to play” is embedded within the game. Unfortunately I didn’t see any Geese icons. Either there’s a bug (I’m on Chrome / OS X) or I’m not understanding how to make them appear.
\nPersonally I don’t think the time limit is necessary. I also think the game could use some clarity around what state the game is in, and what valid move(s) are currently available to me.
\nSounds like this is based on an old European game that I’m not familiar with. Fans of that game might love it!

\nHack: It is also possible to get a head start by selecting “Start” then clicking “Restart”, you can then play a move before clicking “Start” again ;)
\nBug: I was not able to see the goose (playing in Chrome). It shows squares.

Pretty bang on for the theme I would say which is really nice! Not a whole lot of notes or pointers given the game is pretty simple! It took me a minute to figure out the game (the geese were invisible for me!) but enjoyed it once I got into it. Nice little game, congrats!
